Eddie Harris songs
$15.89 Equal parts folk, rock & roll, country, and American roots music, The 100s are a band from America's heartland that crosses several genres while tying them all together with a common thread of what the band likes to call "Rural Route Rock." Featuring a dozen-and-a-half instruments and multi-harmony vocals, these six seasoned Midwest musicians create a sonic landscape that's like a burst of fresh air through the back screen door of the big house that the industry machine likes to tout as "Americana" these days. On their debut CD, "Take The Gravel Home," the band's original material blends an acoustic sensibility with a no-holds-barred approach to playing, and a solid rhythm section drives the point home, with the occasional wailing humbuckers when the situation warrants. Their songs address themes and subjects that are simultaneously distinct and universal: love and loyalty, rainstorms and redemption, drunkards and dreamers, better days and bitter harvests, the razor edge of life in the big city ...
| | Lisa Ellis CD (2004)
Eddie Harris album
$10.15 Lisa Ellis is a singer- songwriter, producer based in the East Village New York City. Her musical studies began at the age of eight with the violin. But even before that her love of music was apparent when she discovered her family's record collection. Growing up she listened to rock, pop and soul and was also exposed to latin and classical music. The stage bug bit initially with dance and later music and Lisa started performing in local clubs as a background and featured singer. She began writing songs on keyboard. It wasn't long before Lisa realized a dream of singing with a gospel choir when The New Voices of Freedom a secular multi ethnic vocal group asked her to record with them. As a member of New Voices she sang with U2 at Madison Square Garden, appearing in their movie and record Rattle n Hum. Other credits as a member of New Voices include Give Peace A Chance with Sean Lennon and Lenny Kravitz and most recently the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards backing James Brown and Jimmy Fallon. As a songwriter Lisa has written for The New Voices of Freedom and has collaborated on songs with R & B Producer Teddy Reilly. Lisa formed her own group several years ago writing, singing and playing guitar. Her new EP displays her versatility as a singer, songwriter and producer. From the punk pop bite of "Slut" to the heavenly harmonies in "I Left You Petals" and everything in between there is an unmistakable range. Her live shows are filled with an impossible to miss energy, emotion and confidence."My first experience performing was in the dance world. In addition to music I'd studied dance for years. My mom and most of her family were singers and musicians and my dad was a dancer so I grew up with both influences. For some time I was balancing both but the need to be heard was stronger and overrode everything else. Growing up in an urban environment led me to the music of that culture. Though I liked rock it was only later that I could personally identify with it. Spending more time downtown exposed me to Punk and Goth culture which I found to be very exotic. Although it's a different place now I still find the streets of downtown NYC very inspiring but it's always the people that really move me. I've met some really fabulously talented vivid people along the way some of whom I've had the chance to work with. I started a rock band a few years ago called Loba. I wanted to write from a different perspective so I picked up the guitar and we kept the material very guitar based. The songs in this recording were written before, during and after the band. I began to conceive the idea of recording the EP with my friend Vinnie Miranda. We were planning on co-producing together. Though he was present for some of the initial tracking he is Dido's guitarist and had to ...

Eddie Harris songs
$11.39 NOTES AND QUOTESBorn in Houston, Texas, Shannon Taylor performed in many bands during his early years. He began writing songs and playing piano in groups at age 12. "At school, I would always go to the auditorium at the end of the day to bang on the grand piano. The people I admired the most were The Beatles and Bob Dylan, and I learned all of their songs. I still believe they were the best." After finishing high school, Shannon got a job sorting mail at the local post office. With money in his pocket, he realized he could afford to buy a Mellotron, a rare and expensive keyboard he'd been lusting after. "I bought a Mellotron before I bought my first car. That's how important it was to me. I'd heard the Mellotron on Their Satanic Majesties Request (Rolling Stones) and In The Court Of The Crimson King (King Crimson) and I knew I wanted to be making that sound! And I've been making it ever since." The post office job played out after a couple of years and he turned to music for his income. "I started getting a lot of session work because I was the only guy within 1000 miles who owned a Mellotron." In addition to working in various studios over the years, Shannon had a succession of groups to play his songs, mainly around the Houston area. By this time he had two sons, David and Eric. When he wasn't playing gigs or working a day job as a painter, he was busy being a father. In 1985, Shannon formed The Reason with his brother Kerry on bass, cousin Kip Millwee on guitar and friend Yiannis Efstathiou on drums. They played their own music, mostly written by Shannon, and gained local popularity in and around Houston. "We were a good band. Our sound was driving and experimental." In early 1987, Shannon decided to stop performing and focus instead on songwriting and recording. This decision was due primarily to his developing multiple sclerosis, a disorder of the central nervous system. "Suddenly, I wasn't getting around as well as I always had been. I was forced to quit working and driving, so I stayed home all the time and just wrote songs. I put together a studio and recorded my songs for no other reason than the fact that I enjoyed doing it." Shannon recorded a 4-song EP during the summer of ...
