| | MISTA JOHNSON Ereethang 4a Reezun CD (2004)
Funkytown Mixtape Vol. 2
$8.69 Born and raised in the South Bronx, the birthplace of Hip-Hop, Mista Johnson was surrounded by a powerful urban musical influence. This influence enabled Mista Johnson to develop a vibrant ear and love for music. Johnson quickly acquired this culture and style of music. "This music," says Johnson, " simultaneously is a temporary escape from the many worries of the world as well as an outlet to attack issues concerning youth nationally and internationally." Having been raised in a rare working two-parent home, Johnson learned at an early age that nothing in life comes easy and if in fact it does, the hard work is in maintaining it. Johnson's father, an upstate New York police officer and late mother, who was a successful Realtor instilled an impenetrable code of morals and ethics in the young Mista Johnson. This allowed him to become a grounded and levelheaded young man in a neighborhood besieged with temptations and trials. Part of Johnson's calling to music began with his acceptance to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia School of Music and Art where he graduated from. At LaGuardia, drawing and painting were learned and refined. Coupled with Johnson's urban background, LaGuardia merged the natural musical talents and art training to the music he was called to create. After high school, Johnson adopted the name of "C-Money" landing a recording contract with a small independent label for the release of his first single entitled "Ladies Can I Have Your Attention"produced by V. Padilla and C. Johnson. Not only did C-Money earn the attention from the ladies, but the hot single also managed to get reviews all the way from Europe's own Hip-Hop columnist Tim Westwood. "Ladies" was also the single that was noticed by I.N.D.I, an independent music distribution company who created an umbrella of record labels for distribution. After months of negotiating Johnson and Padilla were asked to head their own label under the I.N.D.I umbrella. The label was "Krazie Noise records." In 1991, Krazie Noise records released 12 inch singles "Is It Good To Ya'', "No Justice, No Peace'' and "The More Get" featuring Carolyn Harding. Just to prove how Johnson's music stands the test of time, the single "Ladies Can I Have Your Attention" has been re-released under an exclusive licensing deal with California based lable "Stone Throw records." Under the auspices ...

| | Julie Moffitt Labyrinth CD (2003)
Funkytown Mixtape Vol. 2
$16.45 My influences come from many genres. In the 60s I started out listening to the classics (as my first instrument was piano); Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and of course, my beloved Chopin. Soon I discovered musicals, which I adored passionately. I cut my vocal teeth on (don't laugh, now) Mary Poppins. And when I was eight, I sang the music from The Sound of Music over and over, trying to get it right. I can't think of anyone better, technique-wise, to emulate than Julie Andrews. Then, when I was eleven my sister came home from college with a guitar. It was 1969, and she was playing Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Peter Paul and Mary. I was hooked on folk music and guitar playing. In the 70s I got into heavier rock, listening to, and playing, music by Kansas, Queen, Styx, ELP, but I still listened to the acoustic artists like Cat Stevens, Livingston Taylor (James' lesser-known but just as wonderful brother) and CSNY. And, of course, more musical theater. I played the guitar and piano incessantly; coffee houses, local theaters, and then bars when I was old enough. By the time I was eighteen I was playing in my first band, complete with a black Les Paul and bellbottoms. Over the years I've played in many bands; keyboards, guitar, always singing. I wore out my Queen albums practicing my singing. In the 80s there were lots of scantily clad guys with long hair prancing around playing music. Fun to look at, but largely a "boy's only" club, unless you could play wailing guitar leads, which I couldn't. For an acoustic guitarist/pianist there wasn't much work, and I looked silly in spandex (still do), so that was when I decided to go to music college. It was an opportunity to devote my time to nothing but practicing and studying, something you never have time for in the "real" world of a gigging musician. So I went to Combs College of Music in Philadelphia, and stayed until I had a Masters Degree in Piano Performance. After I left college I floundered. I had been plagued by tendonitis in graduate school, and after I graduated I quit the music business for awhile out of frustration and pain. During this time I wrote fiction and poetry, and studied writing. The creative drive was too strong for me to ignore, and I needed an outlet for it. The two most useful things about that period in my "life without music" was that: 1) I developed stronger writing skills, which have helped my lyric writing immensely. 2) I realized that for me, a life without being actively involved in music seemed like ...
| | Tim Jackson Next Of Kin CD (2005)
Funkytown Mixtape Vol. 2
$7.99 The product of a Chicago Hustler and a gospel singer brought fourth the birth of a truly gifted child. Tim Jackson was born on the West Side of Chicago, IL. His father denied him in the early parts of his childhood. Tim's mother and grandparents had to play both mother and father in his life. It was not the easiest task dealing with no father figure, so he embraced his relationship with the only male role model he had which was his grandfather. Tim's relationship with his grandfather proved to be a positive connection. Tim's roots were embedded in the church due the bond with his grandfather. He was involved with the church choir while admiring his mother and aunt Michelle singing in the choir, while his Aunt Delores played the piano and directed the choir. Being exposed to the power of gospel music filled the void that his father was not ...
