On Track album
$14.80 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. ...

$16.45 Billy Curmano's New X Art EnsembleNEW X: XMASWhen you've finally had enough commercial Christmas fare - nobody - but nobody - deconstructs Christmas like New X. Arguments, and nearly a fist fight, broke out in the isolated farm house that serves as the world headquarters for the New X Art Ensemble at just the thought of a Christmas recording. That was until it was plain to hear it wouldn't be just another Christmas cash cow - or God forbid - a "sell out" or even an Elvis Christmas. It would take a decidedly different twist and be recorded right there in the living room on a boombox ...

$16.45 Press ReleaseThis is what one of the world's most well-known jazz musicians has to say about the release of the 'Steffen Kuehn Nonet'-CD 'Now or Later,' featuring 2001 Grammy Nominee Tim Hagans (Released : September 2002):I'm always so excited when I hear of a new band springing up in the jazz world. It shows tremendous love and dedication to the music to see players caring enough to put in the time and energy necessary to create a group as strong as the 'Steffen Kuehn Nonet.' | | Bonzo Dog Band Let's Make Up And Be Friendly CD (1972) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
On Track songs
$10.69 While not up to the high standards set by the band's earlier work, this contractual obligation album does offer a few glimpses of the skewed brilliance for which the Bonzos were so rightly famous. Highlighting the LP is "Rawlinson End," and perhaps Viv Stanshall's finest narrative. A spoken word tour de force, this intricately surreal English soap opera is a worthy successor to the earlier "Rhinocratic Oaths," and offers a preview of Stanshall's full-length solo effort, Sir Henry at Rawlinson End. With some exceptions, the rest of the LP replaces the previous Bonzo albums' affectionate throwbacks to the music of earlier eras with broad rock parodies and defiantly tasteless humor. The band lets loose with "The Strain," Stanshall's scatological tribute to constipation (it's funnier than it sounds). "Turkeys," a Neil Innes instrumental, achieves a strange cinematic beauty. Legs Larry Smith's contribution, "Rusty," is a lugubrious lament about the end of a rather kinky relationship. Another clever Stanshall parody, "Bad Blood" presents a Western revenge saga with a surprise ending. Winding up the album and the group's career, the Bonzos literally get the last laugh with the horror comedy of "Slush." ~ Michael Waynick
