Forgotten Children, Vol. 1 album
CD $9.58  SALE Top 50
The second Glee soundtrack throws a bone to the show's supporting characters, with Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) singing her first solo and Amber Riley (Mercedes) receiving a larger chunk of airtime. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison continue to steal the show, though; Morrison delivers one of the album's most inventive songs with a mash-up of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Young Girl," while Michele sings the absolute pants off of everything the producers give her. The album sometimes strays away from choral arrangements and focuses on individual actors, but it's hard not to sing along with a song like "Jump," where the cast replaces Eddie Van Halen's keyboard riff with bright choral harmonies. ~ Andrew Leahey The second Glee soundtrack feels a bit rushed, arriving no less than four weeks after Vol. 1's release and featuring songs from half as many episodes. Returning fans will still find a lot to enjoy here, though, as Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) gets her first solo and supporting characters Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Kevin McHale (Artie) enjoy a healthier chunk of airtime. Nevertheless, Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison continue to steal the show, with Morrison delivering one of the album's most inventive songs -- a mash-up of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Young Girl" -- and Michele singing the absolute pants off of "My Life Would Suck Without You." As before, this album sometimes strays away from choral arrangements and sounds more like a collection of karaoke recordings, and the use of Auto-Tune (most noticeably during Lily Allen's "Smile," where Cory Monteith sounds like an R&B robot) proves that nothing -- not even songs ostensibly performed in a classroom by high-school students -- is holy in today's music biz. When the cast rearranges "Jump" by replacing Eddie Van Halen's keyboard riff with sprightly harmonies, however, it's hard not to throw up your jazz hands and sing along. ~ Andrew Leahey Recording information: Chalice

With their raw, organic sound, Tennessee's Kings of Leon emerged in 2003 as Southern rock for the indie-garage set, sort of a Strokes for the South. While there were hints of a new direction on their third album, BECAUSE OF THE TIMES, its follow-up, ONLY BY THE NIGHT, follows through with a near-reinvention of the Kings' sound. ONLY BY THE NIGHT could be mistaken for avant-indie cult heroes the Liars on a Southern vacation, as post-punk angularity, distorto-funk bass lines, and clattering percussion are processed through what sounds like the world's biggest fuzzbox. While there are old-glory moments of garagey abandon, most of these tracks sound like someone sat and carefully considered the best way to frame them. And that's the difference between making a good album and making a great one. Audio Mixer: Jacquire King . Recording information: Blackbird Studio, Nashville, TN. Kings of Leon: Caleb Followill (vocals, guitar); Matthew Followill (guitar, background vocals); Jared Followill (bass instrument, background vocals); Nathan Followill (drums, background vocals). Personnel: Jacquire King , Angelo Petraglia (keyboards).

Gov't Mule By A Thread CD  (2009)

Forgotten Children, Vol. 1 songs
CD $11.89  4.8 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front and center, his guitar screaming, his big throaty growl hammering down lyrics like a Southern fire-and-brimstone preacher with earthshaking soul. The material on this set is tight; there is less jamming but Gordie Johnson's production and mixing equalize everything at ten, making it feel like the disc is recorded live. The set opens with the pulsing bass throb of "Broke Down on the Brazos," just before Haynes and guest guitarist Billy Gibbons enter and let the tough, riff-laden blues snarl get in and slash it up a bit. The roar is wondrously deafening and the pace is fierce. Likewise, the slightly more tuneful "Steppin' Lightly" does anything but. With its funky big rock trio riff, it kicks up dust with Haynes playing some killer funk-laden fills as Carlsson and Abst syncopate and pop through both hard rock and reggae backbeats. The hook on the choruses is a nice surprise, but it's anything BUT a pop song. Other notables include the Delta blu

Breaking Benjamin's fourth foray into the crowded waters of early 21st century alternative metal/post-grunge feels a lot like their first three. That's good news for longtime fans of the brooding Pennsylvania quartet, who pound each of the 11 tracks on DEAR AGONY into submission like seasoned strongmen at a country carnival. Front-loaded with the singles "Fade Away" and "I Will Not Bow" (the latter was featured in the murky Bruce Willis sci-fi film Surrogates), DEAR AGONY feels like a well-oiled machine, and producer David Bendeth, whose immaculate touch helped 2006's PHOBIA sell 131,000 copies in its first week, conjures much of the same magic here. Photographer: Florian Schneider. Arrangers: Benjamin Burnley; David Bendeth. Personnel: Benjamin Burnley (vocals, guitar); Aaron Fink (guitar); Chad Szeliga (drums). Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California). Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Regardless of his press, history clearly shows that he has made a lot of people very, very happy. Additional Tracks Recorded at Westlake Audio Studios, Los Angeles, California. Belinda O'Hooley Music Is My Silence CD  (2005) (Import)

Forgotten Children, Vol. 1 songs
CD $16.69
\"so brilliant, so moving.

\" Annie Lennox 'O'Hooley!a dark secret in the serious world of traditional folk!' - The GuardianMusic Is My Silence is a collection of intimate and atmospheric stories featuring Belinda on piano and vocals with contributions from world class musicians including trumpet player Steve Waterman (Jazz Musician of the Year 2003) and Sarah Allen (Flook) on Flute.

Northern folk, rock, contemporary classical, plus a touch of comedy have all been used to describe the music of Belinda O'Hooley. In reality, her performances contain all this plus much more. Belinda is best known as the songwriter and pianist in Mercury Prize nominated folk band Rachel Unthank & the Winterset. In Belinda, the Unthanks had a virtuosic and charismatic pianist, but one completely unaccustomed to accompanying traditional English music. The result was an imaginative and striking sound, free from cliches and predictability. Although Belinda has a singer-songwriter career of her own, her day-job was performing in residential and nursing homes for the elderly. Her ability to play everything from the big band arrangements of the 1950's to the jazz, musical hall and wartime songs of the 30's and 40's, made her a musician of startling versatility, with an understanding of her instrument second to none. Recognised for her song writing and virtuoso piano playing, she has been praised for making fantastic, lasting and important songs. In January this year, Belinda left the band to concentrate on other projects. The Daily Telegraph described Belinda O'Hooley's departure from the band as akin to 'Brian Eno leaving Roxy Music'. Now Belinda is back to running the show - and a good show it always is. A full UK tour is promised in March 2009, but as a taster, she has a handful of dates coming up this November. Belinda co-headlines this autumn with rising folk star and fellow ex-Winterset band member; Jackie Oates whose album 'The Violet Hour' is receiving rave reviews. Belinda will be joined on stage by the velvety-voiced Heidi Tidow. Together, they combine a well-crafted songbook, interweaving sublime harmonies, with a touch of northern banter.

Immaculate
Mark Davis Immaculate CD  (2002)

Forgotten Children, Vol. 1 album
CD $10.65
The "singer-songwriter" moniker is used so frequently, it's too bad there isn't a better description for the musical pedigree of Mark Davis.

The singer, multi-instrumentalist and tunesmith is truly a master of his craft, having just released "immaculate," a stunning 10-song collection that combines a textured and melodic spirit with wide-ranging lyrical tales touching on the seemingly endless shadings that make up both the ordinary and profound parts of our far-flung lives.

From the adventurous spirit that drives one to leave home despite the pain of romance lost ("the wide atlantic") to a dark ode about the relationship between a child and father ("me and my old man"), Davis is able to strike home with a commanding blend of folk, rock and pop.

Davis' voice, like that of David Gray or Duncan Sheik, is a unique instrument full of emotional weight and sonic poetry, able to lift spirits even while supporting the weight of the world."immaculate," a strong follow-up to his 1995 debut, "you came screaming," ( cdbaby /davismark2) was recorded and mastered by Matt Walin at Orange-based Bitemark Records."I've known Matt forever; he played some guitar on my first record," said Davis, noting how Walin's experience in the recording studio proved to be an even more instrumental role on "immaculate.""I just think he is amazing," Davis added.

Because Davis paid for the cost of recording both CDs himself, he acknowledges a gap between the release of commercial recordings. "I have a total backlog of music. Even a few of these recordings were tracked a few years ago," Davis said. While creative recording sessions were a hallmark of Davis' evolution between his first and second releases, equally important was Davis' decision to go on a three-week solo tour of Europe promoting "you came screaming."Having always wanted to experience life outside of the United States, Davis later returned to spend most of 1997 and 1998 living near the city of Brest, France, playing in pubs, writing songs, learning French and writing a book. Over those two years, Davis would take two-week trips back to Orange County to record at Bitemark Studios in Orange, enlisting the help of Walin on keyboards and guitar, as well as bassist Al Wolovitch, drummer Monte McConnell, and guitarist Casey Dolan. Todd Compton (violin), Jennifer Corday (cello) and Erika Duke (cello) also played on the disc."This was definitely not a solo thing," Davis said of "immaculate." "This album was much more of a band effort. Casey was very involved (Dolan, Davis and Walin share equal producing credit)."

Mike Logan In Remembrance CD  (2005)

Forgotten Children, Vol. 1 CD music
CD $12.69
Mike Logan began playing the harmonica in 1993. He is self taught and learned to play while driving in the car along with the radio. He soon began to play the guitar and started writing songs. As his abilities on the instruments improved so did his song writing. Mike's song writing accompanied by the great musicianship on In Remembrance will leave you wanting more. It is the beginning of things to come from this artist. Mike already has several dozen songs waiting and continues to write anticipating future releases. His passion and love for music is contagious on this album. Mike likes to call his music an ecclectic mix of rock, folk and blues. Enjoy the Musical Stylings of Mike Logan and remember that a portion of proceeds go to assist military personnel and their families.

As I walk down the street unafraid, I thank you.

As I put my newborn baby to sleep unafraid of her protection, I thank you.

As I attend Sunday Church Service freely, I thank you. As I leave my home each morning to go to may chosen profession, I thank you.

As my wife accompanies me hand in hand freely, uninhibited, able to speak her mind, I thank you.

As I write and play my songs openly expressing my beliefs, hopes, dreams and desires, I thank you.

In Remembrance is dedicated to all the Service Men and Women, past, present and future, who have sacrificed their lives for these freedoms we often take for granted. Freedom isn't free and I thank you all for your commitment, dedication and purpose.

A portion of all proceeds will be dedicated to charities which help military personnel and their families.

Naych has a great fan base and over 200 original songs, five independent CD releases and numerous performances at clubs and coffee houses throughout Wisconsin. Naych was invited to perform on the Lazer 103 Rock Stage at Summerfest six years in a row and had a great response opening for acts such as Chevelle, Sebastian Bach, Days of the New, Taproot, Caroline Spine, Enuff z Nuff, Jimmy's Chicken Shack and more. Among these accomplishments Naych also competed in the finals at the 2005 Emergenza competition. Naych was one of twelve bands in Wisconsin out of 180 to make the finals. Although we did not win, the experience was gratifying and added to our already glowing fan base. Artist InformationInstrumentationDerek Buckner: Vocals, Guitars Brad Penuel: Vocals, GuitarsByrne Klay: Upright BassJim Bracken: DrumsBiographySugarPine is a...concrete-country--gutter-trash--dirt-track-dates--new yawk--slack-jawed cracker--sweet potato harmony--jackhammer-driven--calloused-hand-playin--band.

Seperated at birth, Alabama born, Brad Penuel, and Brooklyn bred, Derek Buckner, met in the country cradle of Nashville...and instantly hated each other. Years later, they recognized each other while surfing Rockaway Beach in New York, and within weeks SugarPine wasborn.

SugarPine's influences are Gram Parsons, potted meat, Wilco, Butthole Surfers, Hank Williams and anything on a bun.

Derek (formerly of Wiseacre and the Swollen Spleens and Aquaboy), a native New Yorker, is well versed in rock and urban genres.

Brad, moving to NYC from Nashville and Alabama, grounds SugarPine's music in country.

Together with Byrne Klay on Bass and Jim Bracken on Drums they combine alt-country and rock in a great live performance. Sugarpine is currently a major contributor in the evolving New York country scene.
