The band has been in existence since 1979. The musical arrangements are the original scores. We have over 400 arrangements in the Library. The mission of the band is to play the arrangements exactly as written to preserve the historical concept that existed before improvised Jazz. Many of the songs have become standards performed by many Jazz greats even today. They were written by some well-known composers such as Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, W.C. Handy, Ferd 'Jelly Roll' Morton. The styles are dances, popular songs, rags, blues, Broadway show tunes, and early written jazz. Each piece we play has a story. Songs were written about the latest inventions of the time; the telephone, automobiles, and flying machines. Dances were named after animals; The Turkey trot, Fox Trot. The influence of America on the rest of the world begins with Ragtime music taken internationally by Sousa. World War 1 songs written for Broadway shows became the pop patriotic music of its time. We also play Early Jazz compositions by Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong and his hot Five and Seven. John Barath is from Poughkeepsie, NY. His interest in Ragtime and early Jazz has fueled RWB to become a viable performing group. John plays piano, cornet, and sings some of the greatest songs ever written. RWB CD music
$8.55 Over the last decade we've watched the music scene evolve so that audiences' and musicians' love of music is no longer constrained by genres. Pleasant Stitch's experimentation with electronica provides that pleasure for the listeners. Their new EP "Capacitor" displays the power of a journey with synth pop, trip hop, heavy funk, jazz, and beyond- all working together to bring something no one of them alone musters. Formed in late 1997 by three longtime friends (Bob, Will and Carty), they started with a simple enough concept: to ignore genres and simply create what felt best to all of them. Halfway through auditioning singers from a locally placed ad, they experienced Sarah-Jane Hill's gorgeous singing and lyrics and knew instantly that she was the perfect fit for Pleasant Stitch. They set out to create ...

| | Charles Lazarus Solo Settings CD (2005)
RWB songs
$14.15 The album title Solo Settings refers to the fact that North Carolina-born trumpeter Charles Lazarus is the only brass player on these 13 tracks. Actually, the album is basically a duet release, with Lazarus soloing over settings provided by his co-producer Craig Hara, whose smooth-groove aesthetic is a mixture of middle-of-the-road R&B (especially on "Deal," which has a '70s smooth jazz feel right down to the wordless female backing vocals) and weightless new age drift akin to some of British trumpeter Jon Hassell's records with Brian Eno. The results are pleasant enough, and Lazarus plays beautifully throughout, with remarkable clarity of tone and a highly melodic improvisatory sense. However, Hara's arrangements and the songs themselves (mostly written by Lazarus) both tend toward faceless elevator music. Solo Settings is head and shoulders above the gloppy, overproduced dreck of, say, Kenny G., but the stylistic differences between the two are perhaps closer than Lazarus might have intended. ~ Stewart Mason
