| | Greg Hansen Detour And The Open Road CD Greg Hansen Discography of CDs
I play an assortment of familiar and not-so-familiar songs, traditional folk tunes and original songs. The mix is generally pretty mellow, with mostly finger style acoustic guitar, and vocals that I feel compliment what I do instrumentally. Detour And The Open Road album
$14.79 'Weather in the Heart' was recorded in Dublin in 1995, and saw the core Carmina band (Pippa Marland - vocals, saxes, Irish whistles; Rob King - acoustic guitar, mandola; Pete Jacobsen - keyboards; and Nigel Thomas - double bass, Fender bass) join forces with some of the finest musicians in Irish traditional and contemporary music. Donal Lunny (Planxty, Moving Hearts, Bothy Band), one of the great innovators of Irish music, produced the album and also contributed bouzouki, bodhran and backing vocals. Ex-Van Morrison band virtuosos Richie Buckley (saxes) and Dave Early (drums and percussion) were mainstays of the album's rich sound, joined by John McSherry (uilleann pipes and Irish whistles), Laoise Kelly (Celtic harp) - two of the young rising stars of traditional music - and Mike Nolan (flugel horn and trumpet) - one of Ireland's best-known jazz players. The album was recorded almost entirely live in Westland and Windmill Lane studios in Dublin over a two week period, and the sheer intensity and joy of the performance comes across in the recording. ...

Detour And The Open Road album
$23.29 If Tom Waits ever decided to make an album of traditional English folk, it might sound a little like Bellowhead, the folk big band. The aptly titled disc has a real circus quality to the sound, especially on the opener, "Rigs of the Time" and the more abstract "Flash Company," which make full use of the mix of brass and strings. But this very ambitious full-length debut takes in a great deal, from the ballad "Death and the Lady" to the more gospel-ish "Jordan" (actually a shanty tweaked a little) and some instrumentals, like "Sloe Gin" that have been expanded from their original form to sound very full (as well they might with an 11-piece group). "Courting Too Slow" is revisited from an early Spiers & Boden album, with Jon Boden showing just how his singing has improved, a mix of deep emotion and fairground barker. It's a record that's to be praised for the chances it takes -- they could have played it fairly safe and been praised as groundbreaking -- even though they don't all succeed. But even the failures, like the clumsy "Flash Company" are never less than interesting. Kudos to the producers, who bring clarity to a dense sound. This is a summation of the formation of this sound; where they take it will be the fascinating part. ~ Chris Nickson
"... the most significant recording of traditional English music since Liege & Leaf" - (Songlines Magazine) "They don't do anything by halves, this lot. Incredibly, given their awards, headlining festival appearances, cover features and reputation as the best live roots band in the land, this is the first proper Bellowhead album. The 5-track E.P.Onymous set out their stall in thrilling manner in 2004 and we've been gagging for the full montague ever since. Wild, joyous, perverse, bold, crazed, full-blooded, intricate, fearless, funny, epic and mostly BIG. Bellowhead don't disappoint" - (fRoots Magazine)Here it is: "Burlesque" out via Westpark Music. Not so much a Big Band as a small independent country, Bellowhead is an 11 piece busy pushing the boundaries of English roots music into regions where few have previously dared to tread.Bellowhead's debut gig took place at the first Oxford festival in April 2004, brought together by the acclaimed folk duo John Spiers & Jon Boden. They dreamt up the band while stuck in traffic somewhere on the M25. John & Jon phoned Paul Sartin, Benji Kirkpatrick and ...

Detour And The Open Road music CDs
$25.35 The output of the collective around Cornelius Cardew - (see LINKS) was unique. Founder of the 'Scratch Orchestra', Cardew influenced not only contemporary classical composers such as Nyman, Adams, Skempton, Bryars, White, Shrapnel, Smith, etc but also Eno and Pink Floyd. Even Paul McCartney mentions him in his autobiography. Peoples Liberation Music played on many of the big marches in London 1970\'s and drew on some distinct musicians. Vicky Silva: (see LINKS) performed in Hair and also recorded with Alex Harvey, 'Anthem', Elton John, and sessions for Suede, Stereophonics, Placebo and many others, even a stint as Barry Humphries accompanist. Keith Rowe: (see LINKS) the pioneer of the table top guitar.. played with Mike Westbrook, AMM, etc and is still a leading international figure in contemporary improvisation. His playing here throws a different light on his guitar talents.John Marcangelo's (see LINKS) 'Clogg Dance' features in the classic film 'Brassed Off'. John has recently developed 'Clogg Dance' into a full blown Musical which has just been performed in Cumbria. He was also a member of the band 'Violinsky' in the early 1980s. Laurie Scott Baker: (see LINKS) was in the Hair Band of the London West End production and composed music for film, including two award winning animations 'Lautrec' and 'Ubu Roi'. Robert Wyatt has recorded a couple of his songs as did Alex Harvey. Some early electro work opens Manfred Mann's 'Messin'. Played with Alan Holdsworth, Jamie Muir, Alan Gowan, spilling into the Canterbury scene as does..... Pip Pyle: (see LINKS) A mainstay of British & European Progressive ...
