Like the city from which it hails, the music of the band Father Divine is a melting pot of diverse cultures, ideals and aesthetics. Based in New York City and founded by Joe Ferrara (aka Father Divine) in 2000, the band's sound is a bold look into the depth and potential that music truly can have. Through the sounds of World Music, Progressive Hard Rock, underground, late 60's pop, Classical counterpoint, and countless other influences, the elements of each song can be thought of as a sculpted menagerie layered with nuances for the listener to uncover. At times the songs are reminiscent of cinematic soundtracks, and other times more archetypical in form, but always striving toward a unique expression and outlook. With the release of The Great American Pastime, the band's first full length CD, Father Divine has placed a premium on creating an album that is conceptually consistent not only from start to finish, but also in its presentation. With painstaking time and precision and almost entirely through their own resources, Father Divine hopes to establish a paradigm fortified by the power of music and sound. Published on-line in All Music Guide: "Father Divine, aka Joe Fererra, weaves dark landscapes from a world of musical influences, from cabaret to klezmer, with the result sounding not dissimilar to the work of Tom Waits. His poetic lyrics and nocturnal sensibilities can be found on his album, The Great American Pastime, as well as on several songs available for download on www.listen.com." -written by Stacia ProefrockPublished on-line at NY Rock.com, Oct. 1, 2002:"Though occasionally bands are sparse musically, like a box of macaroni and cheese (the four-for-a-dollar kind), Father Divine are like three or four Tanksgiving meals in one day. If the phrase "structured chaos" makes any sense to you, then you'll appreciate their sound. In some tunes, there's a bigness at hand, like a mix between a rock opera and dark cabaret music. At other times, you'll hear shades of Tom Waits, as Father Divine (aka Joe Ferrara) attacks the vocals with whiskey-tinged pipes. There's a dissonance to the music that gives it a gritty feel, as on "Time Bomb in the Rough." On "3rd Ward Dirge," for example, you'd swear it was an outtake from a Waits session. But the immediate inaccessibility of the music (read: you don't start tapping your toe right away) shows there's a lot to consume here, much of it is dark and meaty, but pull yourself up to the table and dig in, I say. written by Bill Ribas Great American Pastime Music FATHER DIVINE Great American Pastime Songs | 1. | Intro |

Great American Pastime album
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than Springsteen's ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Great American Pastime CD music
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains ...

"When a band kicks off its album with the intro of 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' and keeps pumping that riff throughout the number, the listener may make one of three assumptions. Either A) the band is too lame to come up with an original idea, B) they are record snobs, proud to wear their influences on their sleeves or C) they are record snobs proud to wear their influences on their sleeves -- and yet, amazingly, truly have something original ...

| | Adam Rader Speed Of Life CD (2008)
Great American Pastime CD music
$7.95 With lyrics that explore the facets of everyday life, Adam Rader brings a refreshing perspective to pop music. "Most of the time I can only write about the things that really dig at me. I think exploring things that are difficult helps us shape who we are," says the now L.A.-based Southern boy who cites Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Dave Matthews and John Mayer as primary influences. " I write songs to express my interpretation of the world. Its cool when people can relate to that." Much to Adam's satisfaction, his music is being welcomed by an ever-expanding audience. He's seen it for himself while performing at intimate venues like Molly Mallones and Velvet Jones. " I have a place I go to in my mind when I'm performing. It could be what I was thinking about when I was writing or something currently going on in my life. I am always finding new meanings in what I write. One of the most beautiful things to me is knowing everyone else has a place they go to as well. They connect their own thought and experience to it. That has to be my favorite things about art. It means something different to everyone."Adam views his young music career as a way to live a ...
