Tsunami Sessions CD music
$12.15 On their third album, 2009's Midnight Soul Serenade, Heavy Trash keep delivering the good old rock & roll, rockabilly, and hillbilly soul that their first two albums handed out like candy at a Fourth of July parade. Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray hit their stride right away on their debut and continue to be nothing short of great. They make no great changes to their sound here; it's still loose as geese on the rockers ...

| | John Lyell Synthetic Universe CD (2002)
Tsunami Sessions songs
$17.75 This release opens with an early-'80s Tangerine Dream feel. Think Tangram. Easy-going, relaxingly sequenced, flowing, and essentially well-done T. Dreamy material describes the first two tracks. Then things open up into more spacious territory of droning, swelling ambience with a space music/ alien spelunking adventure mood. Envision Brannan Lane colliding with Robert Scott Thompson and add a bit of dread looming throughout.
Hear tribal rhythms and tranced out pipings with ethereal piano. Experience subtle sequencing and relaxing synth swells and meanderings. Think Euro synth releases of the early '80s. Halfway into this disc things mutate again -- formless, shapeless, wandering synthscapes; ambience with a sprinkling of harp-voiced synths like Emerald Web's work. Find ping-pong sequencing with that soft lilting and angelic Suzanne Doucet warmth. So very new agey but with just enough spacey synth swells and fly-bys. Enjoy the feel of early Patrick O'Hearn and his percussive synth works. Listen to that warm-toned minimalism of Suzanne Doucet and the healing territory of Steven Halpern. This feels so analog! Lastly you have drones of space ambience. That monstrous Klaus Schulze-ian/Steve Roach-ish church organ drone can make you feel like you are in a grand cathedral in flight to the edge of eternity, to the Realms of the Holy of Holies.
Synthetic Universe only represents a sort of showcase of all the neat and creative aspects John Lyell and Brent A. Reiland can produce. Synthetic Universe is well-done, but not a remarkable or cohesive concept release. Much within will be familiar and perhaps pleasant territory to synth fans but many of us "synth-heads" seek a novel rush of serotonin these days. ~ John W. Patterson

| | Sinematica CD (2005) Original Soundtrack
Tsunami Sessions album
$10.15 Composers Thames and Harris set out to combine elements of different musical genres into a hybrid of soundscapes; sometimes soothing, sometimes haunting... but always beautiful. Harris brings to the mix his love of breakbeats and basslines while Thames plays his heart out on guitar, synths and piano. The result is an exciting experience for ear drums of all tastes: sometimes funky and other times poignant and remorseful. The album "Original Soundtrack" was conceived over a period of 2 years before it was released. The first year consisted of weekly Saturday night recording ...

| | Metropolis Voyage CD (2005)
Tsunami Sessions music CDs
$14.79 Metropolis, a vocally dynamic R&B group, blazes hot tracks by mixing bits of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, and classic soul. Their music sparks emotion, sending true music lovers into another world -- a world void of meaningless lyrics, bland arrangements, and knockoff talent. Metropolis feels their sound will aid in taking music to the next level. We consider our music to be sort of a rest haven for those who genuinely love and respect good music. Metropolislikens their style to artists such as Take 6, the BeeGees and Earth Wind & Fire, just to name of few. The R&B quartet makes it clear that their mission extends far beyond providing shake-your-booty tracks and club jingles. Metropolis feels it is their obligation to inspire, motivate and uplift people with powerful and heartfelt vocals, reminiscent of seasoned soul music, but injected with modern hip-hop and R&B flavors. "We are in this business to produce ...
