The House of Counted Days is an extraordinary CD. If Ron Thomas had a higher profile it would win yearly top ten honors. It\'ll be there anyway for those of us who\'ve had the privilege of experiencing it.Dan McClenaghan - All About Jazz Ron Thomas\' persona reminds me a bit of the Archangel Gabriel, who appears on all those great Renaissance paintings playingthe trumpet, except that Ron is a pianist.Ron, like Gabriel, stays in the background, but has a big influence on what is going on,and you know he\'s always up to somethingmusical while affecting the destinies of those around him. A jazz pianist who residesin Coatesville, PA, he came up in the sixties, formed a close personal and musical bond with guitarist Pat Martino, and has remained heavily involved in both modern and classical contemporary music throughout the past four decades.Vic Schermer - All About Jazz Ron Thomas can be heard on Vectordiscrecordings as a leader (Scenes from a Voyage to Arcturus, 17 Solo Piano Improvisations, Wings of the Morning, Elysium and Cycles). Also, he appears as a sideman on Richard Burton\'s \"Simple Major/Simple Minor\",The Mike Falcone Quartet\'s \"Playing Live\" andKristin Garson\'s \"Music Under the Influence\". He also has two other recordings under his own name on Art of Life Records (Music in Three Parts and Doloroso). Ron can be heard on two classic Muse recordings from 1972 (Pat Martino\'sLive and Eric Kloss\'s One , Two, Free). For more about information click links at the below left of this page. $9.59 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. ...

Included are such well-known classics as "O Tannenbaum" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas" ...

House Of Counted Days music CDs
$14.55 This two-fer gathers a pair of Joni James' (vocals) titles from her early-'60s cache of long-players for MGM. Both albums are songbooks featuring pop standards by Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, and Oscar Hammerstein II -- on My Favorite Things as well as, appropriately enough, Ira Gershwin and George Gershwin on Joni James Sings the Gershwins. Both recordings respectively offer a dozen sides from the composers/lyricists' expansive catalogs, much in the same fashion that Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan had each done with comparatively successful results. These titles also reveal James' considerably jazzier inflections and capabilities. By the time these discs were initially issued (circa 1963-1964), James had already been established as a successfully critical as well as popular vocalist whose style defied category. As the pop-music horizon began to once again shift in the early '60s, James likewise kept up with the trends. My Favorite Things (1963) features accompaniment by Paul Smith (piano), who leads his quintet through some fresh arrangements of a handful of standards in much the same vein as he had done with Fitzgerald on the vast majority of her celebrated songbooks in the mid-'50s on Verve. Smith provides some syncopated and well-developed interjections and counterpoint to James' luminous and expressive vocals. While each performance garners respective merit, there are a handful that truly define the essence of the effort. Among ...
