| | Cadence Twenty Four One CD Cadence Discography of CDs
A top a cappella group from Canada, the four singers in Cadence are versatile, very musical, technically skilled, and have a joyful group sound. On Twenty Four One, their music ranges from pop and rock to R&B and jazz with the songs including originals, pop songs, and a few more jazz-oriented pieces. The rich harmonies, heated scat singing, use of "body percussion," and willingness to take chances makes Cadence one of the most interesting a cappella groups currently on the scene. ~ Scott Yanow
TWENTY FOR ONECADENCE is Dylan Bell [tenor], Ross Lynde [tenor], Carl Berger [baritone] and Kevin Fox [bass]. The group enjoys working with both pop and jazz, and covers the gamut of a cappella techniques - Great harmonies, scat singing, vocal percussion, killer bass lines - you name it, it's all there. This CD includes a mixture of pop covers, original compositions, and jazz-flavoured material. When recreating pop classics the group maintains the essence of the original versions while adding their own stamp. You gotta love Dylan's Steve Gadd drum groove combined with Carl's Paul Simon-esque lead on "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover" or the nod to Queen included in Ross' solo feature, "The Things We Do for Love." On the jazz side, CADENCE combines their highly-produced vocal sound with swingin', high-energy arrangements. They also add a nice dose of bebop scat singing: check out the retro swing style of "Hit That Jive Jack," or the funky rendition of the Joni Mitchell classic "Drycleaner From Des Moines." Many a cappella groups write original music with varying levels of success: CADENCE, however, really comes to the table with some well-crafted material. I love the high-energy drive of Dylan's "Don't Fix What's Broken" And, if you're a Tower of Power fan, you're gonna love the funky groove of Kevin's and co-writer Gillian Stecyk's "Sittin' in the Cellar." CADENCE delves into a lot of different styles, but the diversity of their repertoire is countered by the consistency of their performances, arrangements, and production value. The lead lines, the ensemble vocals, and the "vocal instruments" all combine to create a very hip sound. If you're a fan of vocal groups, and a cappella harmony, you're going to dig Twenty For One.Cadence is:Four men, four microphones, no instruments. This is the formula for Toronto's celebrated vocal band, CADENCE. This formidable foursome has been dishing up its unique blend of tight harmony, instrumental imitation, high-energy antics, and audience interaction to sold-out audiences-and getting people genuinely excited about vocal music! The results have earned CADENCE international recognition as "one of the finest quartets to make an appearance in the a cappella scene" CADENCE was nominated for a 2001 Juno Award and received two Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards for their debut CD, "frost-free". CADENCE is internationally recognized for their unique Canadian approach to a cappella vocal music. Performance requests have come from all over North America and Europe, and as far away as Venezuela and Egypt. During the past five years, the CADENCE performance schedule has been highlighted by appearances on radio and television, at Toronto's SkyDome, and the 2001 World Leaders tribute to Quincy Jones. In 2003 CADENCE had the honour of an "impromptu" performance with Bobby McFerrin at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Most recently, the band won first place and "audience favourite" at the New York Regional Harmony Sweepstakes.
