| | Joseph Parsons Lies... CD Joseph Parsons Discography of CDs
From Joseph:This CD was made in Philly in 1995 with the help of many folks. It was produced by John Wicks and includes some great Philly & NYC players including: Rockin' Ronny Crawford, Wallace B. Smith, David Lawrence, Alan (A#) Goldsher, Pablo Batista, Lee Smith, Donna Bostock, Bet(h) Williams and more.A pop oriented acoustic record, it features songs of faith, fidelity, politics & love. It includes a song entitled 'The Oath' which places the writer in the soul, yes I know..., of a crop that has given itself to the world only to be betrayed by it's arrogant disregard of honor. 'For You' is a song we all can relate to if we have left a partner for lack of love. 'Dreams of Valium' examines the torment of a man chasing the material dream we westerners find ourselves in at times.Other than those nice, light themes, it's a fun record I hope you will enjoy.Peace, josephPhiladelphiaMarch, 2006 Lies... Lies... album
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front and center, his guitar screaming, his big throaty ...

Lies... album
$9.35 Joe Meyer - Singer / SongwriterJoe Meyer,"...a songwriting finalist at the Minnesota Folk Festival,...a singer who has an easy way with a tune and a facile guitarist...offers a captivating bit of guitar play..." "His...band engagingly [performs] his amiable and easy-going blues, pop and folk..." "...with enthusiasm and inspiration"-- St. Paul Pioneer PressThe CD has generated some very favorable responses. Some of the written comments from listeners include: "Love your CD" "Terrific music" "I was very impressed by the music and found it very easy to listen to - just let it play!" "I really liked your songs. A true musician indeed." "It's a great CD to pop in when you're looking for something to relax to. With strong vocals throughout, Joe Meyer serves up some refreshing sounds on the album." --Minnesota MusicThe two instrumentals on the CD are dissimilar. Spring Thaw is guaranteed to relieve stress while Taking Turns is upbeat, a little funky and features some flute and sax solos --- not your run of the mill combination. The Big City Congestion Blues may be classic blues with some get-down harmonica and guitar solos, but it's not your typical theme, and yet any city dweller will readily identify with it. Another song that hits home with most of us is Summer Goes So Fast. It's folksy and yet a little bluesy and has a catchy groove. Life is an Adventure is smooth and inspirational. Sweet Daniellita is warm and pretty with some beautiful flute work. True Friends has been described as a cross between reggae and a polka. Rather unusual, wouldn't you say? "It all sounds alike" is one comment you will definitely NOT hear when it comes to this collection of original songs. This CD has been described as "breezy", "diverse and unique" and having it's "own style". Yes, it is truly original. How does an acoustic guitarist capture the mood of springtime in an instrumental? Or how does a songwriter come up with a theme that's fresh and yet strikes such a familiar chord that we immediately identify with it? Why not ask Joe Meyer? He seems to have accomplished both. "Spring Thaw" for example, one of his original instrumentals, "successfully re-creates the promise of watching an icicle dripping in the warming sun" according to music critic James M. Tarbox. Hard to imagine? The melody is made up entirely of harmonics with a finger-style background and light percussion. Or consider the title song of his debut CD: "Summer Goes So Fast". What Midwesterner will not agree with that statement? Yet the theme is original. Most people will also agree that his lyrics are satisfying, meaningful and really hit home. His guitar work also offers originality. In addition to flat-picking and finger-style, his most characteristic style incorporates cross picking and plucking. His licks and grooves are not only different, but also pleasing to the ear as he gently coaxes some sweet tones out of his Canadian built Larrivee acoustic. "I've always thought of myself as more of a guitar player who sings than a singer who plays guitar," ...

Lies... CD music
$12.15 More information about Ming & Ping can be found at www.mingping.com[Ming & Ping]Though heralded by some as the first, full-blown pop icons of the MP3 age, enigmatic, Hong Kong-born twins Ming & Ping have never been interested in becoming American- style rock stars. Rather, they "just are", forging their kinetic synthesizer creations and dazzling, digital music videos in the quiet seclusion of their San Francisco apartment, diligently realizing their shared creative vision. Simple and honest in personality yet, intellectually and musically, some of the most complex and subtle thinkers one could hope to meet, Ming & Ping have, through their curious charisma, attracted a devoted cult of fans and a talented circle of collaborators - filmmakers, producers, photographers, etc. Despite the gathering buzz around their music, videos, and live performances, introspective instrumentalist Ping and rambunctious frontman Ming appear blissfully indifferent to - or wholly unconscious of - their status as a cultural phenomenon on the verge. On their debut LP MingPing.com (Omega Point Records), the instinctively fashionable siblings demonstrate the energy, charm, and intelligence that inform all their projects. The opening single "A.I." charges along on driving synthesizer lines while the brothers trade off on vocals with eerie, robotic detachment. "Mission Control" and "City Lies" have a similarly icy sheen while, at the opposite end of the musical spectrum, Ming & Ping warm up Coldplay's "Yellow" quite nicely with warm synthesizer pads and sunny harmonies. Equally uplifting is their original "The Bright Sunlight", retains the same relaxed vibe, coupled with a sense of lyrical wonderment ("People forget / like children remember / seasick / and slow to wake"). ...
