| | Mucho Buddha Dragonfly CD Mucho Buddha Discography of CDs
This fourteen song CD was voted in the top 10 local releases in New Mexico for 2003 by the Albuquerque "Weekly Alibi", the region's foremost alternative paper. This is a band that can improvise its way into the ozone and whether dark or light, they let it all go free! Mucho Buddha, of Albuquerque, New Mexico uniquely and distinctly combines alternative rock, world-beat, funk and folk into a positive, listenable and danceable groove. The group's work is all-original music, which gains new fans with each and every performance.Buddha consists of four charming, yet extreme musicians...which is to say they are extremely passionate about the music they create. Since their beginning, the group has had a connection like no other. The lyrics are tight throughout and the rhythms are simply poetic. The sounds they generate are unique and a fine, fine medicine for the soul.As far as instrumental communication, no clarification is needed. With each member's significant musical backgrounds, they have much to talk about. Lead man, Chuck Hawley, weaves all of his guitar, guitarsynth and trombone playing together into a cohesive tapestry of sound. Hawley's voice is strong, yet smooth and his lyrics create a natural connection within the rest of the group and the audience. Ben Jones, on violin, has a gypsy jazz spirit and a Hendrix-like wild side. This tempered with gentle emotionalism, he also sings, plays harmonica and grooves on the keys, giving away his natural charm as a showman!Madman, Dave Pankuch, pumps out electrifying rhythms on his five-string fretless bass. He fluidly combines jazzy sentience with booty shaking funk attitude. Anchoring the group is Dave Chrestensen on kit and percussion. This Dave works it in every song, while exploring a wide range of rhythms and tones through world, rock, funk, Latin, swing and even orchestral style grooves.Beside the point of just being great musicians, one of their greatest attributes is that they are all exceptionally intuitive. Although the music is structured and arranged respectively, the imagination and ingenuity literally sings through. Their ability of individual improvisation is immense, yet as a group it is immaculate. Intently listening to one another, the end result is an even flow. Audiences easily perceive the internal connection within the band.Currently, Buddha is promoting their first studio album, Dragonfly, which was released in September of 2003. Dragonfly album
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time ...

| | Millionaire Outside The Simian Flock CD (2003) (Import) Bonus Track; Japan
Dragonfly music CDs
$42.05 Hip-hop group Millionaire rap about everything from alcohol to weather on OUTSIDE THE SIMIAN FLOCK, a record of a dozen songs.
With enough swagger to knock the Strokes off their high horse, Millionaire delivers its own daring mix of garage rock on the band's debut album, Outside the Simian Flock. These Belgian darlings mix a chaotic yet fashionable design of punk, electronica, and soul, and their effort in making their own kind of rock & roll is right on. Outside the Simian Flock could very well be synonymous with Millionaire's personal disposition as a group, but assuming that the band will kick-start your heart like all the others (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Hives) isn't completely wrong. They'll do just that and then some, a million times over, hence the slick production and the sexy appeal of the dozen-track set. From the thick basslines of "Body Experience Revue" to the schizoid riffs of "Aping Friends" and "Petty Thug," Millionaire manages to pull it off without it getting old. Outside the Simian Flock is a layered, dramatic performance and despite its feverish blend of genres, the bandmembers are keen on what's it is they're going for. Other highlights such as "Her Gender (Fixed)" and "Blindfold" are easy to digest and make it quite obvious that Millionaire won't be pigeonholed into any one category. Millionaire takes pride in being a little out there, and that's the brilliance behind Outside the Simian Flock. ~ MacKenzie Wilson

Dragonfly CD music
$14.39 Tenor saxophonist Ron Blake makes large statements utilizing small groups on his latest Mack Avenue release, offering 13 diverse and creative duo and trio recordings. Although Virgin Island native Blake's name is the one on the cover here, co-credit truly should have gone to pianist and producer Michael Cain, who appears on every track, wrote or co-wrote some of the music, and guides it all as much as Blake does. The two work beautifully together, and although Shayari probably would have played just as splendidly if Blake and Cain were the only two musicians on it, its A-list of guests -- bassist (and former employer) Christian McBride, drummer Jack DeJohnette, violinist Regina Carter, and percussionist Gilmar Gomes -- brings vital flavorings to the tracks on which the guests appear. ...
