| | Timothy Harper First Forest CD Timothy Harper Discography of CDs
Timothy Harper's songs are passionate, playful, tender, and fierce, written for people who find themselves at the crossroads of history and modernity, at the cusp of self-discovery, at the knife edge of love and loss, ready to burn into life.A potent blend of Celtic themes and motifs with contemporary jazz, gypsy and rock influences, Harper's music is defined by his own solid performances on Celtic Harp and guitar. Harper's intense and generous vocals, which invite comparison to Cat Stevens, Counting Crows, and James Taylor, are the threads that tie his songs together, and make them more than just another collection of harp pieces. Poetic, powerful and strongly rendered in the tradition of singer-songwriters like Eliott Smith, Sarah McLachlan, and Jann Arden, the lyrics of Timothy Harper draw his listeners into a world where the sky between the wires is painted with myths, where love is a beacon to shopkeepers and buskers, and where passion retains all its glorious, transformative strength. At the core of every performance there is a kernel of certainty that we are capable of building lives that are extraordinary. After years spent studying for a doctorate in English Poetry, Timothy Harper decided to leave academics in order to pursue a musical vocation in 1998. As a professional harpmaker as well as a harper, Timothy enjoys a deep personal connection to the instruments he plays. Look for Timothy Harper on stages and at cultural festivals in Eastern and Central Canada and the North Eastern US.Timothy Harper is accompanied in live performance by the inimitable guitarist and vocalist Mike Blackmore, who also performs with his own band The Mike Blackmore Project. Together in concert, Harper and Blackmore are intuitive, professional and instantly engaging in any venue. First Forest album
$11.49 Sean Rock began writing songs as a child and hasn’t stopped since. The Arkansas native grew up in the Delta town of Clarendon, where, Sean says, “there really wasn’t anything else to do but sit on the levee and make up songs. My mother and grandmother always sang to me-- Hank Williams, folk songs, The Beatles…. So music became a part of living, really early.” Sean’s uncle, Sonny “Red” Baker, was one of the early voices of rockabilly in its early days in Helena and Memphis. Sean acknowledges his influence saying, “I remember sitting there, listening and watching his hands bending the guitar strings. I thought that was the greatest thing in the world.” In time, Sean learned to play the guitar and joined a couple of bands, always concentrating on the songwriting. He cites a broad range of influences growing up, from The Smiths and R.E.M. to Nanci Griffith and The Band. “That was always the important part for me—coming up with new songs,” he says. Then, in junior high, a friend brought to school a copy of Steve Earle’s “Guitar Town”. Sean remembers that fateful day saying, “We skipped the rest of the day and listened to ...

First Forest album
$9.99 The year 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of N.W.A's landmark album STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, one of the two most important gangsta rap albums ever (the other being N.W.A. founding member Dr. Dre's THE CHRONIC). The album sounds as ferocious and frightening as ever, as it continues to voice the "power of street knowledge" to the masses. Like the similarly themed 10th Anniversary edition, this version of S.O.C. contains a handful of reworked versions of songs by some of the biggest names in post-N.W.A. rap, including Snoop Dogg ("Gangsta Gangsta") and Ice Cube protege Mack 10 ("Dopeman"). The collective force and power of Ren, Eazy-E, Dre, Cube, and Yella can not be underestimated, and this 20th-anniversary disc is evidence why.
How do you define five of today's most controversial and successful rap artists? Three letters--N.W.A. (aka Niggas With Attitudes). While hip-hop was dominated by New York-based rappers, N.W.A. took a stand for the West Coast, paving the way for a music's migration. STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON universally established Ice Cube, Eazy-E, M.C. Ren, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella as prime figures in the hip-hop nation, and gave every gangsta with a rhyme a reason to grab the mic.
Straight out of Compton, California, N.W.A. delivered real raw hip-hop ...
