| | Isaac Hayes Movement CD (1970)
Paradise Found
$9.65 ISSAC HAYES MOVEMENT is aptly named. It was here that Hayes reached his pinnacle as an arranger and producer, generating lengthy pieces that ebbed and crested into "movements" that were worlds removed from the taut, three-minute pop songs he helped write and craft for Stax/Volt studios in the 1960s. Ironically, none of the material on MOVEMENT is penned by Hayes. Instead, he ...
| | Isaac Hayes To Be Continued CD (1970)
Paradise Found
$8.65 Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Released in late 1970 on the heels of two chart-topping albums, Hot Buttered Soul (1969) and The Isaac Hayes Movement (also 1970), Isaac Hayes and the Bar-Kays retain their successful approach on those landmark albums for To Be Continued, another number one album. Again, the album features four songs that span far beyond traditional radio-friendly length, featuring important mood-establishing instrumental segments just as emotive and striking as Hayes' crooning. Nothing here is quite as perfect as "Walk on By," and the album feels ...

| | Daniel Bruce Single Thread CD (2006)
Paradise Found
$16.45 Daniel Bruce has been performing music on a professional level since the age of seventeen when he began playing and recording with local acts in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio. He attended Bowling Green State University on a music scholarship, where he studied both classical and jazz guitar. Daniel has held faculty positions at Muskingum College and Cuyahoga Community College, where he taught ear training, jazz history, and applied guitar. In 2004 Daniel was awarded a graduate teaching fellowship at the University of North Texas, where he directed a lab band and two guitar ensembles, and taught applied jazz guitar while pursuing a master’s degree in jazz studies. He completed his master’s degree in December of 2006, and is currently teaching and performing in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Daniel has performed with groups from various genres, including the Broadway productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Parade, and Chicago, and has maintained an active career as a jazz and classical performer. In September of 2004 Daniel’s arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Embraceable You” was published ...
| | Stevens, Siegel & Ferguson Get Out Of Town CD (2006)
Paradise Found
$14.79 After nearly 15 years of performing, touring and recording together, Michael, Jeff and I have been through a lot. A band is kind of like a marriage, except nobody thinks as carefully about forming a band, (I like to say it's like a marriage you didn't really choose). If someone had told us in 1989 or 1990, (we can never agree on exactly when we started the trio), that we would still be playing together in 2007, I think we would have laughed at the idea. Still, here we are, and the music keeps getting better. On July 21, 2004 we met at the same recording studio in Brooklyn, as we had 15 years before for our first recording. As is usually the case, we found that we had more than enough material. Everyone had new tunes to try, we had some standards we had never played that we wanted to record, and, as is also usually the case, we decided to record it all. We started playing and right away the music really felt good. The first tune we recorded was “Beautiful Friendship” and we got a good take on the first try. The rest of the session was more or less the same. One or two takes of each tune and almost all seemed good. When we had finished what turned out to be a long day of recording, we all felt good about what we had done. Even so, recording can be tricky to judge and it’s easy to be fooled by how you feel during or just after a session. Sometimes you think a recording was terrible and it turns out to be fine or vice versa. In this case I think we all felt pretty confident, but we didn’t really expect that we would like everything. Instead we did, and I think it’s a nice snapshot of our summer reunion. So, we hope you enjoy the music as much as we enjoyed playing it and I hope we'll see you at a performance sometime soon! Tim Ferguson
Stevens, Siegel & Ferguson first worked together in the late 1980s and have recorded occasionally since then, though the departure of two members from New York City has meant less regular work together as a group. But mining the archives for a mostly complete session, they chose to get together to record a few new tracks in 2004 to produce this CD. Pianist Michael Jefry Stevens, bassist Jeff Siegel, and drummer Tim Ferguson clearly listen to one another, rather than just have the pianist lead the way with the rhythm section along for the ride, while they explore familiar songs, they choose less common material in place of overdone warhorses. Siegel's intricate solo is the initial focus of "Jeepers Creepers" (a song some might think is old-fashioned, but they prove otherwise), followed by a couple of rollicking choruses by Stevens that have a bit of playful ...
