| | First Night On Earth No One Knows Anything For Sure CD First Night On Earth Discography of CDs
Ex-Laburnum frontman Wes Grasty developed a shimmery dream pop sound with First Night on Earth, deviating far enough from My Bloody Valentine and Lush for a unique sound of their own. Their debut album, No One Knows Anything for Sure, swirls around atmospheric loops, hazy guitar work, and crashing percussion waves, but it's Grasty's low, boyish vocals that make First Night on Earth's sound bit a different from their influences. Vocalist Tina Cargill is a nice addition, particularly on the cascading trip "Subside." "Misunderstood" is dark in subtle electronics while echoing Joy Division-like appeal, and "A Good Reason" plays around with jazz threads. No One Knows Anything for Sure is an honest, ambitious effort for First Night on Earth and definitive of what's musically affected Grasty. He knows what lies ahead. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
first night on earth is the vision of founder Wes Grasty, formerly a member of the band Laburnum."no one knows anything for sure", first night on earth's first release, is born of Grasty's gestation of songs and complimentary choice of musicians including Stephen Yount (guitar), Chris London (bass), Vance Carlisle (drums) and Tina Cargill (keys, guitar and backing vocals).Grasty received critical acclaim for his work in Laburnum including "Best Male Vocalist", Creative Loafing.According to Magnet magazine: "Vocalist Wes Grasty is...an identifying trait...he's got a vulnerable, tuneful appeal." Grasty has taken his talents and unusual style and applied it to first night on earth. For their debut CD, the band rehearsed throughout the summer of 2001 and recorded at Scrimshaw Studios (Charlotte, NC) and Reflection Sound Studios (Charlotte, NC) in the fall of 2001.This album has a crisp, fresh new sound.first night on earth's surreal sounding guitars, cascading keys, thoughtfully placed bass lines, modern synthetic loops and driving drums help carve a new 21st century sound.Their mixture of rock/pop with occasional electronic beats and memorable melodies sets first night on earth apart from the norm.Additionally, Grasty's lyrics provide an enchanting and personable touch to an already beautiful landscape.REVIEWS:"First Night On Earth, on No One Knows Anything For Sure (Liquilab), spotlights the expressive vocals of Wes Grasty (ex-Laburnum) while deploying a high-drama stealth arsenal of arpeggiated U2ish riffs, sonorous keys, restless percussion and tingly female backing vox. It's all wrapped up, womb-like, in the richest and most luscious wooly post-shoegaze atmospherics."- Fred Mills, Magnet Magazine, Issue #53-----Album Review by EDF Ā© 2002 PHASE9 ENTERTAINMENT "Formed by Wes Grasty, this five-piece band from North Carolina has a sound that is similar at times to some British guitar groups from the 1980's. This gives First Night On Earth an edge over other upcoming American bands, as this is the sort of sound that is quite unique these days to which a lot of bands, if they tried, would otherwise fail to reproduce. With a pulsing bass and a hypnotic echo guitar sound, this album would at times make you want to drift away.... excellent guitar work from Stephen Yount mixed with atmospheric sound effects and haunting backing vocals from Tina Cargill....what First Night On Earth has started should stir up some interest to see where they will next take themselves. Let's hope there will be a second night on earth."4 out of 6 stars-----"The rich, low, booming bass keeping steady heartbeat-time; the echoey, chiming, reverb saturated guitar ringing like heaven's bells; thepercussion's thunder & crash; the loftly, distant vocals carrying dreamyimagery. That's the sound of First Night on Earth, a 5-piece band fromCharlotte, NC. Yeah, you can call it "shoegaze," replete with easycomparisons to Slowdive, Breathless, Mellonova, Chapterhouse... FNOE hasa solid, forward-driving style in their songs - they don't just floataround in space like a lot of spacerock/dream pop. KC's debut album introduced to the world a group that threw various '60s genres into a blender and set the results afire with a blowtorch. One of the pioneers of the progressive rock movement that began in the late '60s and flourished in the early '70s, King Crimson was arguably the most consistently creative band in the genre. On IN THE COURT they blend wispy, Donovan-ish folk-rock with Wagnerian grandeur, mind-bending heavy rock, and even a free- jazz sensibility. ...

No One Knows Anything For Sure album
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry is a band, not a person, ...

No One Knows Anything For Sure CD music
$12.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity is genuine, not affected, and the cerebral nature of the album is fascinating, albeit mildly so, as this is as sleepy as it is thoughtful. And it's that thoughtfulness ...

Beginning simply as a basement act out of Wakefield, Massachusetts, the members matured alongside their music. Knowing that urge, and embracing what they knew, the band formed under their name, and began to give birth to their unique style of mind numbing rock.Originally drawing from some of their stronger influences such as Finger Eleven, Sevendust, and Deftones, the band began to draw local attention during the fall of 1999. No One¹s Kind worked their way up to the title of "Best Local Band in Boston of 2003" as printed by the Boston Phoenix.Growing and changing, each member contributed his own styling to form a merged whole. Cullen Corley's drums act as the lifeblood of the group, forming the foundation ...
