Walking RainWalking Rain is the name the Indians of New Mexico gave to fast summer rainstorms that sweep across the desert, leaving the air and ground refreshed. Walking Rain is also the name of a band formed by Bob Bruen and Coale Johnson. Their music covers the open spaces between folk, country, blues and swing in a simple, natural way that leaves the ears refreshed. The idea for the band was hatched during a front porch jam session at Coale's ranch in the Eastern Sierra and Walking Rain was officially formed 6 months later in Santa Fe where Bob lives. Walking Rain is not Bob and Coale's first band together; they have been playing music together for over 25 years in a wide variety of styles.Bob plays mandolin, guitar and sings. He has been involved with some of the leading musicians in the Blue Grass/New Acoustic movement and has performed with David Grisman, Vasser Clements and Mike Marshall.Coale plays guitar, electric bass and sings. He performed and recorded extensively while pursuing a degree in music at Depaul University in Chicago and Berkelee School of Music in Boston. Coale has been playing folk and blues since he as a child in the Midwest and has two internationally released jazz CDs of original music. He has recorded with the great jazz drummer, George Marsh, as well as percussionist, Karl Perazzo, and bassist Benny Reitveld, both from Santana. | | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
Walking Rain CD music
$15.09 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their concert performances -- without adding American folk or country standards -- and the poignancy of their best studio recordings. Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen were aided on this set by bassist Glenn Worf, guitarist Richard Bennett, and drummer Vince Santoro, as well as backing vocalists such as Matraca Berg (who also contributed a pair of songs to the album), Jessi Alexander, and Jaime Hanna.
The set opens with an electric dobro and shuffling harmonica introducing "Tulsa Sounds Like Trouble to Me," but these are quickly accented by acoustic guitars, mandolins, a popping ...
| | Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison CD (1968)
Walking Rain music CDs
$6.25 This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only in Super Audio CD players.
Recorded live at Folsom Prison, Folsom, California on January 13, 1968. Includes liner notes by Johnny Cash and Steve Earle.
Want to hear part of the reason why Johnny Cash is an icon, a singer respected and influential in country, folk, and rock & roll? THIS is it! In 1968--one of the most tumultuous years in American history since the Depression years--Cash recorded an album live in front of a (literally) captive (but wildly appreciative) audience, in Folsom Prison. With two guitars, bass, drums, and a small vocal group (including Cash's wife June Carter Cash and the Statler Brothers), Cash sings his hits and lesser-known songs ("Send a Picture of Mother") and some haunting country standards ("Dark as a Dungeon"), as well as songs about REAL outlaws ("Cocaine Blues") to a rapt audience that hangs on every word. That boom-chicka-boom sound is sharp as the first ...

| | Dierks Bentley Feel That Fire CD (2009)
Walking Rain album
$15.65 Five studio albums into his career, Dierks Bentley has carved a successful niche for himself on the Nashville scene, and FEEL THAT FIRE continues to exploit his strengths. Soulful and real enough to stand out from the cookie-cutter Nashville hordes, Bentley takes cues from the outlaw country generation of Waylon Jennings and Wilie Nelson while remaining catchy and commercial enough to be a regular feature on contemporary country radio. The title track and first single is a particular standout, as is the sultry "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes" and a tender duet with Patty Griffin, "Beautiful World."
Audio Remasterer: Hank Williams.
Recording information: Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN; Ocean Way Nashville; Station ...
| | Band Of Heathens One Foot In The Ether CD (2009) Digipak
Walking Rain CD music
$11.75 As you might expect from a group fronted by three singer/songwriters, the material on One Foot in the Ether is uniformly strong. The band's principals -- Colin Brooks, Gordy Quist, and Ed Jurdi -- all share writing and publishing credits, and since all three play several instruments, the album boasts a diversity of sounds and styles. The first thing that strikes you is how many of these tunes sound like gospel music. Given the name of the band, it's a real surprise. "Shine a Light" is a mellow, call-and-response number with churchy organ, stinging slide guitar, and an uplifting lyric. "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a blues with a gospel tinge, although the lyric is strictly secular. An odd, stuttering, New Orleans backbeat supplied by drummer John Chipman and rousing group vocals make the track take fire. "Let Your Heart Not Be Troubled" is a love song with a strong hint of gospel and a deep spiritual feeling, a heartfelt expression of sympathy to a friend in need of ...
