| | Pat Chen Somos El Mar CD Pat Chen Discography of CDs
Pat Chen & Bill Davis, & sometimes a bunch of other musicians* are Somos el Mar. The group's name which means "We are the Sea" in Spanish, comes from a folk song: Somos el Barco, and just as "The Sea we are sailing on touches many lands" so the music of this group touches many themes. Traditional, Celtic, Caribbean, Original, Folk, Country, ... whatever suits the occasion. Their varied repertoire includes instrumentals, ballads, fun songs, originals, traditional tunes & more. Pat plays the fiddle & Bill plays guitar (6 & 12). Both Pat & Bill sing, write songs and have many years of experience performing alone and together. They are regularly seen at the Folk Club of Reston/Herndon, when they are not on the road singing Their CD appropriately called "Somos el Mar" with 17 selections made with the help of many friends over a three year period was nominated for a WAMMY (Washington Area Music Association Award) in the Folk Traditional and Debut recording catagories. Pat's life revolves around her music and her five children and their education. Bill has been a pilot & flight instructor, he is also a balloon pilot (May 2000 he & Pat flew the balloon over the Bay Bridge before the annual bridge walk.). In the studio they are nearing completion of a 2nd album which will feature some of the favorite songs from their performances. * Pat Chen Vocals & Fiddle Bill Davis Vocals & Guitar Lynn Romano Vocals & Guitar (Louisiana Wedding Bells) T.M. Somos El Mar album
$10.09 Digitally remastered by Andrew Garver, Dan Hersch, and Bill Inglot.
He may be remembered by the unenlightened as a purveyor of mellow '70s AM radio hits, but Gordon Lightfoot is as fine a singer-songwriter as Canada has ever produced (no small accomplishment, considering the company), feted by no less than Bob Dylan ...

| | Laura Nyro Eli And The Thirteenth Confession CD (1968) Remastered
Somos El Mar album
$7.59 Widely regarded as one of the finest moments in a stellar recording career, ELI & THE THIRTEENTH CONFESSION was a bold, original amalgam of jazz, soul, folk, and rock. Nyro's freewheeling, open-ended arrangements were brought into sharp focus by her clear, gospel-derived singing and incisive, poetic lyrics. There is a strong spiritual undercurrent at work here, investing even the darker songs with a timeless, celebratory feel. A testament to Nyro's songwriting abilities, ELI contained several songs that became hits for other artists, including "Stoned Soul Picnic" and "Eli's Comin," popularized by the Fifth Dimension and Three Dog Night, respectively.
Nyro peaked early, and Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, just her second album, remains her best. It's not only because it contains the original versions of no less than three songs that were big hits for other artists: "Sweet Blindness" (covered by the 5th Dimension), "Stoned Soul Picnic" (also ...

| | Andrew McKnight Where This River Runs CD (1998)
Somos El Mar CD music
$18.35 McKnight's sophomore effort continues his literate exploration of America's back roads and small towns, richly colored with elegant harmonies and exquisite arrangements. Skillfully produced with original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les Thompson, each of the 14 songs vividly evokes the setting; the spooky swamp blues of 'Chemical Voodoo' set along Cancer Alley on Louisiana's Mississippi Delta, the open Dakota prairies in 'A Prairie Wind/Big Sky Town', or the evocative Saturday night dance at the Grange Hall in 'Shenandoah Moon'. Andrew's wry charm, signature acoustic guitar style, and rich warm vocals shine throughout, tastefully adorned by the likes of Tom Prasada-Rao, Bruce Molsky and Terri Allard. Other highlights include the a cappella title track, the lush 'Bargeman', the crystalline simplicity of 'I Can't Understand the Moon', and the anti-big box sentiments and Americana drive of 'A Town Called Progress'. 'Some of the best ...
