One of very few exceptional Power Metal bands to come out of Texas...SPITTIN JONAH was formed in the spring of 1997 when, through an advertisement on a referral board at a local music store..Billy Hagan Blax (bass and vocal) met Matt Eaton (guitar). Billy had worked briefly in another project with Mike Rich (drums) and thought he would fit in nicely. The first jamm (31 May 1997) was an instant success. Soon it became obvious to them all that Billy doing both vocals and bass was limiting his creativity. Billy says "We set out an advertisement for a bassist who was much the style of Steve Harris..and that's exactly what we got wasn't it? ha-ha". Enter James Young..a Geezer Butler/Steve Harris inspired bassist who is an Iron Maiden FREAK! I think he's even got 'Eddie' pajamas and Bruce Dickinson bed linens..ha-ha-ha-ha. After a year of live shows..James began to have problems with the tendons in his wrists..so upon completion of recording sessions for the LOUDER THAN HELL CD..he decided to take some time off and rest. With James on holiday for who knew how long...an old friend of Matt's..Billy Pixley..was asked to fill in for live shows until James could heal up and return. A year or so later..the band took a 'much needed' break for many months during late 2001/early 2002. Two years after his temporary departure, James has now returned. SPITTIN JONAH are aware that their 'White Metal' (Biblically inspired) lyrics may not be to everyone's liking..but that's why they strive so hard to make the music as purely raw metal and excellent as can be. "Absolutely we are Christians..and certainly we write from that point of view..but we're NOT pushing 'religion'...that's a different sort of thing entirely. We usually only play secular venues. We don't throw Bibles from the stage or pass out tracts. If someone wants to ask questions about what and/or why we believe after a show...we will gladly speak with them...but we're just doing what we do...you know..?..playing in a band. It's what we would all be doing anyway...Christian or not. We believe (as God does) that everyone has a right to choose to go bloody straight to hell if they like. We are particularly convinced that hell is not for us and that there is a better way offered through Jesus Christ. We do hope that everyone would make an informed choice regarding eternity..you know?" says Matt "But it's definitely up to each individual to decide for them self." Louder Than Hell album
$14.95 Ruffians was born out of friendship and the mutual musical interests of its founding members Craig Behrhorst (Guitar/Background Vocals), Luke Bowman (Drums) and Chris Atchison (Guitar/Background Vocals). The band debuted at the famed San Francisco punk rock venue the Mabuhay Gardens in December ’83. Soon after, the band changed their line-up and recruited long time friend Dan Moura on bass. It then became evident that the group was in need of a stronger front man who would be able to take them to the next level. After placing numerous “vocalist wanted” ads and too many auditions to count, they finally found a singer/front-man in that of Carl Albert. Management and Band agreed that Carl was the stuff that legends are made of… and just in the nick of time. The band was scheduled to play a gig in less than 2 weeks opening up for Alcatrazz at the Kabuki Theatre in San Francisco.Hailing from the mountain town of Sonora California, Carl was more than anyone could ask for. With the dual guitar sound of Craig and Chris along with Luke’s powerhouse drumming, Carl’s powerful and melodic vocals had given the band the sound they had been looking for. Ruffians then hit the Bay Area club circuit with a bang! Ruffians played many shows throughout 1984 and were definitely on their way, securing support slots for bands such as Loudness, Y&T, Dokken, U.F.O., Saxon, and Savatage. The band began to headline shows throughout the Bay Area, as well as co-headline shows with their hometown friends Exodus, Death Angel, and Vicious Rumors. In 1984 Ruffians recorded a 4-track demo tape featuring the tracks “Fight For Your Life,” Wasteland,” “Bad Boys Cut Loose,” and “Eyes of Fire.” The demo was well received in the States and abroad, by Fans and the Metal Press alike. However, Ruffians were neither a “big hair” band nor were they thrash metal. They were a difficult act to sell to the major label executives at the time. This was the early days of heavy metal, prior to the genre becoming part of the mainstream as it is today. As ...
