(1 Customer Review)
Rooted in salsa but beloved for his ability to reach beyond the mundane, Victor Manuelle continues his maturation on his 2008 effort, SOY. The vibrant record focuses mostly in two directions, alternatively pumping up the listener with eminently danceable salsa numbers ("Yo No Soy Perdonante") and sultrily wooing his audience into submission on evocative ballads ("Yo Te Queria Querer"). The sleek singer instinctively threads the ever-dramatic songs together with the commanding presence of a savvy veteran and an incorrigible lover of his subject, his words, his world.
Personnel: Johnny Torres (banjo); Jose Prieto (accordion, piano); Angel Machado, Jesús Alonso (trumpet); Victor Candelario (trombone); Jose Lugo (piano); Carmelo Alvarez (bongos).

Soy CD music
$11.69 Since the middle of the 1990s, cantante Victor Manuelle has always placed near the top of the Latin charts, given his many recordings and concert tours, and even his co-hosting of the 2006 Latin Grammys. In 2007, he won the Premio Lo Nuestro for Best Salsa Artist. One listen to "Mirame," the opening track -- and first single -- from his Yo Mismo (Myself) album, explains why. This cut, which has caused the album to race up the Billboard Top 200 charts, is the perfect meld of modern salsa and nuevo flamenco. From the acoustic guitars in the first few moments to the skittering claves and drums and brassy horn section that pop in right behind ...

| | El Flaco Elizalde Rey Sin Reina CDs (2008)
Soy CD music
$11.19 Like hip-hop, regional Mexican music has witnessed its share of violent tragedies. Hip-hop lost 2Pac Shakur, the Notorious B.I.G., and Run-D.M.C.'s Jam Master Jay to violence; regional Mexican music lost the influential Chalino Sánchez, Sergio Gómez (of K-Paz de la Sierra), trumpeter José Luis Aquino (who spent 14 years with los Condes), Zayda Peńa (of Zayda y los Culpables), and Valentín "El Gallo de Oro" Elizalde to violence. The ambush and murder of El Flaco Elizalde on November 26, 2006 received a great deal of coverage in the Spanish-language media, and there were cries of "stop the violence" in regional Mexican circles just as there have been cries of "stop the violence" in hip-hop. El Gallo de Oro's death left his brother Jesus "El Flaco" Elizalde the only living recording star in the Elizalde family; so not surprisingly, there have been plenty of El Gallo de Oro/El Flaco comparisons. But as Rey Sin Reina (King Without a Queen) demonstrates, Jesús "El Flaco" Elizalde is an expressive regional Mexican singer in his own right. This 2008 release is a well-rounded banda effort that ranges from corridos ("Mario Aguirre") to ranchera-minded material ("La Vida del Hombre," "Se Me Deshizo el Corazón") to Latin ...
