"Thomas has an unusual talent, and I am predicting a bright future for him."Garner began his musical training in Petersburg, Virginia at the age of eight on piano. As he delved into his classical piano studies, his mother guided him toward learning how to play the saxophone. His father, an audiophile, exposed him to many classical and jazz recordings that influenced him from the time he was a toddler. By the time Garner was eighteen, he accumulated top marks in various musical competitions in Washington state. He performed on saxophone in numerous honor bands throughout the world.Eventually, Garner moved to Seattle, Washington where he began to compose original songs. He performed in clubs, concerts, and jazz festivals where he earned a reputation as an exciting soloist. He is noted for circular breathing and playing two saxes at the same time. His televised performance at Seattle's KOOL Jazz Festival before several thousand listeners was well received by the audience and critics alike. Garner currently resides in Valley Village, California where he performs in concerts, recording studios, movies, and television. Notable performers he has worked with include Prince, Diane Schuur, Sammy Davis Jr., Gregory Hines, Stephanie Mills, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and Little Richard. When You Hold Me
$17.75 Genre-busting. Cinematic. Community-driven. Sonically and visually stunning. Unified and diverse.MarchFourth is a date, a command, and a large band poised to take on the world. How do you define the experience of a MarchFourth show? What kind of images emerge when you listen to their eponymous 9-song debut disc? Imagine Duke Ellington meets Sgt Pepper in an international big-top Fantasia evoking a familial community reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. Imagine a 1920's speakeasy where Mr. Bungle meets the Shogun Warriors in a PG Clockwork Orange. M4 is not just for hipsters and adults; the kids and grandparents love it too! MarchFourth Marching Band got it's name by accident when a bunch of artists and musicians in NE Portland decided to put a marching band together for a Fat Tuesday party (March 4th, 2003), originally performing a 7-song set of tunes that included covers of Rebirth Brass Band, Fela Kuti, and Fleetwood Mac. The band's gigs in the following weeks-- a peace rally and opening slots with the Youngblood Brass Band and Pink Martini -- cemented the group as a unit. Since then, M4 has performed over 300 shows for just about every type of audience imaginable. Without guitars or keyboards, M4 "rocks" with the best of them, swirling the audience with an over-the-top explosion of performance and charisma. MarchFourth Marching Band has evolved into a mobile big band spectacular, consisting of a 12-piece horn section (4 saxophones, 4 trombones, & 4 trumpets), a 10-piece drum/percussion corps, anchored by electric bass (battery powered). The sound is huge, melodic, and dynamic, taking audiences on a musical journey around the globe. MarchFourth writes and performs its own material, and also draws inspiration from an eclectic range of worldwide influences, such as Eastern European Gypsy Brass, Samba, Funk, Afro-Beat, Big-Band, ...

It is as far from the standard big-band combination as you can imagine, for Fischer is acquainted with the vast army of woodwinds and brass that ordinarily populate symphony orchestras. Check out the players. Many of the players on this record were not those popular in the rehearsal bands around Hollywood ...

When You Hold Me
$13.69 SPECIAL SEASONAL PRICE !!CM played horn, keys and percussion on "Chasing After Wind", track #11 on "Man in the Mirror". Jeza played and sang on a different mix of the same song which is on his 2002 album "Lucidity"I am an eclectic guy when it comes to music and film and other forms of expression. Too much of the same thing, no matter how inspired or interesting that thing is, has diminishing returns for me as a fan or as an artist. So it will come as no surprise that I am particularly impressed by musical artists who can skillfully and gracefully draw from a broad array of styles and flavors, and blend those ingredients into an original and genre-defying musical identity. An excellent example is UK singer/songwriter Jeza, who in late 2003 released "Man in the Mirror", the follow up to his widely-acclaimed 1999 album "Wined Up". At first, I thought it a bit odd that Jeza included the phrase "crossover jazz rock pop" on the front and back of this album. Apparently, he knows many fans tend to categorize or label their favorite music, and Jeza's music doesn't fit neatly into any one or two standard genres, so he went ahead and gave us a label to use to describe what is inside. How accurate is this self-applied description? I'd say it works pretty well, better than anything else I could come up with. The jazz element is most evident in an overtly swing piece like "Sister J", but a pervasive jazz feel is also clearly reflected in many of the other songs: the chord changes and voicings ("Man in the Mirror"), the improvisatory instrumental work ("Dancin' in the Rain", "Chasing After Wind"), and Jeza's rich and adventurous vocal delivery ("One Fine Day"). Jeza obviously maintains a warm spot in his heart for classic rock, particularly of the 60's-era psychedelic variety. John Hoare's sinuous and haunting lead guitar soars and rings on several recordings, including "Darkness" and "One Fine Day". On the final reprise "One Fine Night", John's more muscular tone puts an emphatic exclamation point at the end of the album. Jeza doesn't resort to big drum and bass sounds to satisfy his need to rock, sticking instead to much more restrained drums, trebly bass parts and liberal use of hand percussion, reminding me of mid-60's rock bands like early Grateful Dead or Big Brother and the Holding Company. The pop ...
