The second hit single “Sweet Inspiration” hit # 14 on New Music Weekly Indie Chart, # 48 on New Music Weekly Main Chart, and went to #1 on IndieWorld.Big Rain has been performing nonstop for eleven years. During this time, they have logged over 1,100 performances, performed with some of the biggest names in the business, and have an established reputation as a great band with an uplifting sound. The band’s dynamic sound is built on superb songwriting and vocals. Their performances effortlessly flow from mid- to up- tempo dance songs, to heart- felt ballads and into improvisational jams that the band calls free falling, or Free-Falls.With the release of three successful Albums on their own Indie Label Big Rain established themselves as a recording and performing artist with a unique and original sound. After receiving a recording contract with Ray Ruff at Oak Records they completed their new Album “Big Rain”.The band completed the new album at American Recording Company with the legendary Producer/Promoter Ray Ruff, of Oak Records and one of the most successful Engineer and Producer Teams of the last 40 years, Bill Cooper and Richie Podolor. Ray Ruff and American Recording Company are considered to be the cream de core of the recording industry. This team has produced the biggest names and hits in the industry. Between them they have about two hundred chart busters and Gold Records. The new Album and the third single, “December Night” released in November 2005, is being added to radio play lists through out the states and the world.Music That Has LegsThe new album “Big Rain” features Big Rain’s core trio of Peter Alamo, Bruce Guynn, and James Chatter ton. Bruce Guynn handles lead vocals, bass guitar and keyboards. Peter Alamo plays lead and rhythm guitars and sings vocal harmony. James Chatterton adds guitars and piano. On drums and percussion is the renowned session man, Chet McCracken, who was with the Doobie Brothers for 18 years. On several occasions, Chet has received honors as Rock Drummer of the Year. Richie Podolor, one of the pioneers in surf guitar with his hooky melodic styles, and one of the top mandolin players adds his mandolin to the mix. Richie produced the hits for Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf. Both bands have gold records on his Wall of Fame. He was also rated as the number two on a list of top ten producers for the decade of the 70’s. Two of Southern California’s best, Doug Livingston on peddle steel guitar and Bobby Furgo on fiddle complete the unique sound that is the new album “Big Rain”.Big Rain is the true definition of the working mans band. The trials and tribulations they have faced would have stopped most other bands dead in their tracks. But these guys have stayed true to their artistic vision and true to the music. They have done, with little resources, what others only dream about. With every major set back, they have come away stronger because the music has amazing staying power. Bruce Guynn and Peter Alaimo are fabulous performers and two of the nicest and toughest people you will ever meet. James Chatterton joined forces with them to record the record after performing with them a few times. They knew each other because Jim's band, Vera, had shared the bill with them on several occasions over the past few years. After several days into the sessions with Ray Ruff and crew, they asked Jim to join the band. Jim said yes as Vera had come to its end. He led that band for seven years. Each song on this Album has a strong melody. In this day and age that is unusual. Most people only find one or two songs on an album that they like. However when you put great rhythm and groove with strong improvisation, and heart felt vocals into a positive feeling with words that relate, you have music that might last forever. | | Bill Holland By Heart CD (2003)
Big Rain music CDs
$20.25 REVIEW WASHINGTON POST, WEEKEND, MAY 31."By Heart," keyboardist-composer Bill Holland's latest release, is graced by bookend balance. It begins with "Miranda's Veranda," a melancholy solo musing, and ends on a similarly reflective note with "And If You Dream Too Much," another unaccompanied recital. Oddly enough, the opener wouldn't sound out of place signaling the last call at a neighborhood bar. The same quietly romantic tone informs some of the ensemble performances. "Indigo," a moody blues, has plenty of insinuating charm going for it, and tenor saxaophonist Bruce Swaim infuses the piece an interesting edge it would otherwise lack. Swaim's full-throated sound is also a big plus when Holland recasts Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" as a flowing pop ballad. It's the album's sole cover tune. Far more distinctive, though, is "No Use Blaming Love," which features several local jazz musicians conspiring with Holland's husky voice to create a noir-ish haze. The jazz ante is upped on "You might Be Right," a hard-bop theme on which Swaim and trombonist Rick Lillard adroitly man the front line, and on "Let's Get One Thing Straight," which finds Holland and guitarist Chuck ...
