Fast forward a few years, and we find Ali exploring themes of passion, sex, and life as an independent young woman on her debut CD Dirty Little Secret. The songs range from aggressive funky rockers to tender ballads but are tied together throughout by Ali's passionate, dynamic vocals and insightful lyrics. Oh, yeah-and by her guitar playing-she played every guitar you hear on the CD. Her funky rhythm guitar style reveals influences such as John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and James Brown, while her soloing explores the blues-infused side of rock n roll, a la Slash, Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. Ali's vocal inspirations range from the fervent breathy wails of ani difranco to the dark, honeyed brooding of Fiona Apple. God blessed me with the gift of voice before I was born. I started singing as a child, somewhere around the age of three or four. I've always loved music, all kinds, for as long as I can remember. Whenever I would experience something stressful, I always found solace in music. My mother, Debra King-Cooper, always supported me buying stereos, records, tapes CD's and whatever else I needed to enhance my appetite for music. I would blast the music and sing so loud that the neigbors would come knocking at our doors and ask me to turn the volume down, even though we lived in a house! Needless to say, music was and has always been my best friend. I was exposed to different types of music at an early age. My godmother, Sunshine (Sarah Fine), took me to see plays and concerts at least every other month. In the 90's, she made sure that we went to see everybody who was anybody in the R&B industry. She is the second greatest support of my career, other than my mother, thus far. I've always had the desire to write lyrics and compose music, but never thought that I could. I thought that it was a talent that people innately possessed and maybe I didn't have it. I've loved music forever and was ready to put my skills and abilities to the test. I chose to follow my heart in September of 2001 when I met Kristopher Cloud and I'm very thankful to God (you to London)! Kris and I connected and began writing together exchanging infinite ideas. When I would compare myself to people or doubt myself, he would always say, "Are you crazy? You are more than good enough." He believed in me at times when I didn't believe in myself. Kris you know that you are the bomb! I started writing my album in February, 2003. I worked with two extremely talented producers, Ryan Daisley, and Lionel Holoman, Jr. (LJ), to co-produce music exactly how I wanted it.
