Dutch Radio Recordings, Vol. 2 songs
$8.79 Though Dutch indie rockers Bettie Serveert wouldn't make a big splash on the alt-rock scene until their second album, the band's debut, PALOMINE established the template for their sound. As with much of their other work, PALOMINE is a study in contrasts. It alternates between brashly rocking and ...

| | Howard Devoto Jerky Versions Of The Dream CD (1983) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Dutch Radio Recordings, Vol. 2 MP3 Album
$9.69 (MP3 Available for Download) Erstwhile Buzzcock and former front man of post-punk outfits Magazine and Luxuria, Howard Devoto has always been somewhat difficult to peg musically. After disbanding Magazine in the early '80s, Devoto went on to pursue a short-lived solo career, resulting in his lone 1983 effort, JERKY VERSIONS OF THE DREAM. More pop-based than any of his previous efforts, the songs all feature Devoto's distinctive croon--a discomfiting mix of seduction and caustic menace. Like his material with Magazine, Devoto's lyrics are peppered with poetic allusions to politics, both personal and social. The slow building heat of "Cold Imagination" ...

| | David Bowie Live In Santa Monica '72 CD (2008)
Dutch Radio Recordings, Vol. 2 songs
$36.09 Only available in bootleg versions before this 2008 EMI release, LIVE SANTA MONICA '72 presents David Bowie in full glam-rock grandeur completely inhabiting his outlandish Ziggy Stardust persona as he leads his Spiders from Mars through a fierce set that draws heavily from HUNKY DORY and, not surprisingly, THE RISE & FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST. In addition to cherry-picking many of the finest tunes from Bowie's early era (most notably a thunderous extended version of "The Width of a Circle"), the set also finds the erstwhile Davy Jones covering Jacques Brel (a wistful take on "My Death" that nods to key Bowie influence Scott Walker) and the Velvet Underground (a faithful version of "Waiting for the Man"). Easily one of the best Bowie concert albums available, LIVE SANTA MONICA '72 is ideal for Ziggy acolytes and glam disciples.
In 1972, David Bowie set out on his first US tour. He'd recently introduced the world to his Ziggy Stardust persona with his top 5 album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders ...

| | Knight Brothers Temptation CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Dutch Radio Recordings, Vol. 2 music CDs
$23.65 This 24-track anthology is a solid overview of the 1963-'68 work of Chicago soul duo the Knight Brothers, plus eight songs by the Carltons, an obscure quartet featuring one brother under his real name, Jimmy Diggs.
The Knight Brothers are only remembered for their 1965 hit "Temptation 'Bout to Get Me," but they recorded quite a bit for Chess in the '60s, though they didn't manage to put out an album. This belated compilation gets an A for thoroughness, with both sides of all six of their 1963-1966 Chess singles, as well as the 1968 Mercury 45 "Tried So Hard to Please Her"/"Ghetto Joe." There are also eight mid-'60s Chess tracks by the Carltons (who included one of the Knight Brothers, Jimmy Diggs, though fellow Knight Brother Richard Dunbar wasn't involved). It's a great fill-in-the-gapper for soul collectors, though as happens so often with these kind ...
