Armed Forces album for sale Product Description
Armed Forces album for sale by Elvis Costello was released Jun 16, 2006 on the Jvc Victor label. ARMED FORCES is the 12-track release by U.K. songwriter and rocker Elvis Costello and includes "Accidents Will Happen," "Senior Service," and "Oliver's Army." Expanding their sound from the tightly wound new wave rock of THIS YEAR'S MODEL, Elvis Costello & the Attractions returned with the lyrically bilious but musically expansive ARMED FORCES. A key album in Costello's development for the way it branched off into the ABBA-influenced pure pop of "Accidents Will Happen" and "Oliver's Army," the sunny Beatlesque melodies of "Busy Bodies," and the soulful ballad "Party Girl," ARMED FORCES is consistently rated among the finest works in the singer-songwriter's canon. Armed Forces CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. ...See Full Description

| Pump it Up The additional songs included in this cd are live versions of Costello classics containing those little changes in beat that only come across in a live Elvis concert. If you have never heard Elvis Costello live you haven't really heard Elvis Costello at all. Buy this CD and join the Goon Squad. By a reviewer (New Jersey) This review is for a different format. |
| A monster album, classic Read the liner notes in this reissue and EC tells you all about how he was channelling all sorts of lyrical ideas from his travels on tour combined with politics, personal stuff, and literature. Oliver's Army is still relevant today about mercenaries and Moods for Moderns really felt like a soundtrack for the times in the early '80's but anytime it's the fast track towards emptiness it's relevant. The songs will jump out of your CD player and make you dance or move to the words and you'll be blown away, they're all topnotch early Costello. Then there's the great EC version of the Nick Lowe classic about Peace Love & Understanding that you have to be deaf not to have heard on the radio. The bonus CD is actually pretty good too, the live tunes come alive and are well produced and sharp. By Andrew M. (Santa Rosa, CA) This review is for a different format. |
| More pop than punk but still classic. "Peace love and understanding" stands as one of, if not the best, of antiwar anthems released in the last 30 years, while "Two little Hitlers" can't be beat as a tale of a relationship in serious trouble. "Chemisty Class" with its set up for a crude rhyme and then substitution of "mind" for the expected word shows just what a really classy songwriter can accomplish. The continuous references to Nazi phrases may be a bit much but these were, after all, the years of Thatcher and Reagan. Could be Blair and Bush.
