| | Pink Martini Sympathique CD (1997)
Live At Rtsi music CDs
$13.89 The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.
Recorded at Stiles Recording Studio, Portland, Oregon, from December 1996 to April 1997.
Pink Martini: China Forbes, Thomas Lauderdale.
Personnel: China Forbes (vocals); Dan Faehnle (guitar); Aaron Meyer (violin); David Eby (cello); Gavin Bondy (trumpet); Robert Taylor (trombone); Thomas Lauderdale (piano); Doug Smith (vibraphone, percussion); Richard Rothfus (drums, bongos, percussion); ...
| | Masters Of Acoustic Guitar CD (1997)
Live At Rtsi songs
$11.99 Masters of Acoustic Guitar is a fine collection of exceptional acoustic guitarists who favor the luxurious textures of contemporary instrumental and new age music. While this music will be a little bland for some tastes, there's a lot of subtlety and variety within this music, from the folk stylings of Leo Kottke to the jazzier Billy McLaughlin and Dirk Freymuth. Other featured guitarists include Ed Gerhard, Stephen Bennett, ...

| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Live At Rtsi CD music
$13.49 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and fully grown into her ability. Her own band, now well bedded-in, is superb and sympathetic, but there are some surprising additions (Paraguayan harp, anyone?). Natacha Atlas weighs in for a duet on the title cut, which becomes a gentle contest between the two singers, both of whom ...

| | Neurosis Pain Of Mind CDs (1988) Bonus CD
Live At Rtsi album
$12.95 Reissue contains a bonus CD with demos, live-tracks and on-air radio performances.
Oakland metal outfit Neurosis dropped their full-length debut, PAIN OF MIND, in 1988. While on subsequent releases the band would perfect a razor-edged brand of mesmerizing prog metal, PAIN OF MIND captures the band full of youthful, punky energy. In fact, the album might be more easily classified as hardcore thrash than metal.
Either way, PAIN OF MIND hits like a battering ram. Lead singer Scott Kelly lets loose his ...

| | Joe Lee Wilson Come And See CD (2007)
Live At Rtsi CD music
$9.25 After years of being out of print, many of the obscure avant vocalist Joe Lee Wilson's earlier albums were rereleased in the early '00s, with the extremely rare COME AND SEE arriving in 2007. Jazz fans will rejoice at the opportunity to hear more of Wilson's work; he was a prolific and striking jazz vocalist for most of the seventies (frequently collaborating with the incendiary Archie Shepp), before fading in to obscurity in the eighties. Traditionalists might not dig ...
