30 Gospel Classics album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts ...

30 Gospel Classics CD music
$6.49 On the original LP, the song "Drifting Blues" faded out after about 3 minutes. The CD contains the complete 11:31 version.
Released in the same year as 1975's THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD, E.C. WAS HERE is a live album short on content but long in presentation. Backed by his usual mid-70's studio cohorts (George ...

$17.19 Legendary delta bluesman Son House spoke about a passion for his music and was quoted as saying "I'm talkin’ 'bout the blues. . . I ain't talkin' 'bout monkey junk!" MonkeyJunk is a band that draws heavily on the legends of the blues and translates that influence into a contemporary blend of swamp R&B, soul boogie and bedroom funk. This triple threat trio comprised of Steve Marriner, Tony D and Matt Sobb draws on over 56 years of combined experience playing blues live and in studio . . . and it shows. In the fall of 2008, MonkeyJunk was nominated ...

$14.25 While subtlety isn't exactly his strong suit -- especially live -- it's also not what Dave Hole fans expect out of their Australian slide guitar slinger. The word "ferocious" best describes his over-the-fret, over-the-top technique, and what was merely intense on his studio albums gets kicked up a few notches in ...

30 Gospel Classics album
$11.35 Hailing from the West of England, Bristol-based musician Hazel Mills is far from typical. Fusing post-rock and Reich-esque minimalism with elements of glitch and 60s psychedelia, tracks veer from startling complexity to playful simplicity in an instant; experimenting with multiple layers of live-looping, obscure time signatures and unconventional instrumentation along the way.Following 12 years of classical training in both piano and vocals, Mills began to feel restricted by the limitations of traditional classical theory, and at university started to explore more left-field, risk taking composers such as Morton Feldman, Steve Reich and John Cage. Intrigued by the freedom, spontaneity and atonality of both Cage and Feldman’s music, and fascinated by Reich’s psychedelic celebration of tonal harmony and rhythm, she specialised in 20th century experimental music, and graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Performing and Visual Arts.In 2005, after signing a development deal with Xpress Records, she was introduced to producer, composer and experimental guitarist TJ Allen (Aesoteric), who was enlisted to work with her in developing her sound. “Tim encouraged me to write more freely and not to be afraid of simplicity,” said Mills. “He also opened my eyes to artists such as Matmos, Autechre and Fennesz, who have made careers out of pushing musical boundaries by ...
