Renee Olstead
Personnel: Dean Parks, Bob Mann (guitar); Jochem van der Saag (harmonica, organ, keyboards, programming); Dan Higgins (saxophone); Chris Botti (trumpet); Chris Dawson, David Foster (piano, keyboards); Randy Waldman, Tamir Hendelman (piano); Frank Capp, Joe La Barbera, Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Rafael Padilla (percussion); Angela Fisher, Nita Hutton, Ester Austin, Quiana Parler, Lauren Evans, Richard Page (background vocals). Audio Mixers: Dave Reitzas; Humberto Gatica. Audio Remasterer: Stephen Marcussen. Recording information: Chartmaker Studios; the Record Plant, Hollywood, CA. Photographer: Gabrielle Revere. Arrangers: John Clayton; David Foster; Brad Dechter. Much like her self-titled debut from 2004, the second album by television actress and jazz-pop singer Renee Olstead finds the flame-haired teenager working with producer and arranger David Foster on a track list consisting mostly of standards from the Great American Songbook. A more than adequate singer with a surprising depth for such a young age (just 17 when this album was recorded), Olstead shines on classics like "Stars Fell On Alabama" and "Lover Man."

Talent! The last female singer who had the ability to take older standards and make them fresh with a dinstintive style of her own was...Barbra Streisand! And, she's only 19. Submitted by Bill (Las Vegas, NV, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Outstanding in every way An excellent album, outstanding in every way, from the inspired singing by Ms. Olstead, to the arrangements and production and recording quality by Mr. Foster. Already my album of the year. And this is one of the few albums about which I can say that the quality has stimulated me to go and find more by both the vocalist AND the producer regardless of who the vocalist. Did I say I love it? Submitted by king.anthony (Oak Ridge, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Isabel & The Whispers Isabel & The Whispers CD (2008)
Skylark
$11.39 Isabel and The Whispers is a New York City-based, folk-inspired pop band influenced by artists ranging from Aimee Mann to Astrud Gilberto. Listeners might also hear echoes of artists like Suzanne Vega, The Cranberries, Sarah McLachlan, Karen Carpenter, Judy Collins, and Dido. On this album, the band likes to paint from a free-flowing palette of bittersweet melodies and bare instrumentals that bring out Isabel\'s pure and delicate singing voice. Their songs are by turns dreamy, soulful, atmospheric, and inspiring as described by fans.In Isabel’s own words, here is a story behind the making of their album:“On a sunny, spring day, I was standing around with our band drummer, Alec, trying to draw up reasons as to why we should make an album. We had gotten together a few good songs, it’d be a road not taken, and so on. But Alec just looked at me, his eyes twinkling, and said, \'You don’t need a reason.\' So it was then that my resolve to make an album crystallized, especially after Octavio joined us on guitar. We all went to a dimly-lit underground studio in Williamsburg to get these songs recorded.Like love, it took time. Now, finally, our album sees the light of day. There are songs on here like “Dot to Dot,” “Princess” and “Aftersong” that ...
