Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles A team of top nuclear scientists is assembled by the mysterious Exeter at a high-tech laboratory in Georgia. His mission, kept secret even from the researchers, is to develop new sources of atomic energy, which are needed to defend his home planet, Metaluna, from its interplanetary rival, Zagon. When two of the recruits begin to suspect Exeter's true identity and motive, they attempt to escape. But before the runaways can reach safety, the aliens intervene and carry them off in a last-ditch effort to save Metaluna. In a desperate attempt to save their civilization, benevolent aliens kidnap Earth scientists. This ground-breaking science fiction displays the best special effects of its time, and a close look reveals seeds of many later films, including "Star Wars," "Aliens," "Star Trek" and "Coneheads." Filmed in Technicolor.
Original aspect ratio: 2:1. This Island Earth Reviews: "THIS ISLAND EARTH remains among the most poetic and dreamlike of 50's fantasies, full of imagery both wonderfully inventive and pointedly banal..."-- Dave Kehr, New York Times

$10.29 Don Siegel's cult masterpiece, interpreted as an allegory of both McCarthyism and Communism, is undoubtedly one of the screen's most disturbing evocations of paranoia. It stars Kevin McCarthy as Dr. Miles Binnell, a physician whose traumatized arrival in the emergency room of a San Francisco hospital leads the staff to believe he's lost his mind. In a series of flashbacks, he unwinds a bizarre account of his last few days. After his return from a trip to rural Santa Mira, his nurse, Sally (Jean Willes), explains that his office has been flooded with patients who have made appointments yet never appeared. Former girlfriend Becky Driscoll (Dana Wynter) tells him that she's unable to rid herself of the belief that the man claiming to be her uncle is an impostor. A hysterical young boy refuses to return home, claiming that his mother is not his mother. Miles's concern over this pattern of incidents, temporarily allayed by some jargon from the town psychiatrist, is newly aroused when he gets a phone call from friend Jack Belicec (King Donovan), who begs him to come over and take a look at the strange mannequinlike figure that's suddenly appeared on his pool table. This exceptionally well written and directed ...

$9.69 A meteor crashes in the desert near a small Arizona town, and research scientist John Putnam (Richard Carlson) thinks it's a spaceship, but no one will believe him except his loyal girlfriend, Ellen (Barbara Rush). Weird evidence begins to back up his theory however, from the strange behavior of some of the locals, to the slime trails, the ghostly noises in the phone lines, and the apparitions of hideous alien eyes swooping down on passing cars. ...

$20.69 Yes, it's a sitcom that is set in the overly familiar setting of the bustling hospital and yes, it features a cast of young, good-looking stars and quirky character actors. But, with all of these seeming clichés of network television, SCRUBS manages to have emerged as one of the wittiest, and most original television programs in years. Starring Zach Braff (now known also as the award-winning writer-director-star of GARDEN STATE) as J.D., a talented young intern; the lovely Sarah Chalke (TV's ROSEANNE) as Eliott, his on-again, off-again love interest and fellow intern; and Donald Faison (CLUELESS) as J.D.'s wacky best friend "Turk," the show manages to bring a perfect fusion of irreverent humor and earnest warmth to the hospital sitcom format. In Season Two, the relationship between J.D. and Elliot, now exes, becomes complicated when they are ...

$10.09 This melodrama for the modern age is based on the true story of the first successful sexual harassment case in America. Niki Caro's (WHALE RIDER) inspirational tale traces one woman's determined struggle for independence and equality in a male-dominated environment--a struggle that set a precedent for improved working conditions for women across the country. Charlize Theron plays Josey Aimes, a young mother of two who has just left her abusive husband and returned home to live with her parents (Sissy Spacek and Richard Jenkins). Reconnecting with her old friend Glory (Frances McDormand), she learns of a well-paid job at the mines that would allow her a modicum of independence for the first time in her life. But Josey soon finds out about the drawbacks to the job, as the men mount a war of escalating cruelty against the women, who are expected to "take it like a man." Dildos in lunch boxes, obscene graffiti, and a harrowing episode in a Porta-Potty are just some of the indignities the women have to suffer in silence. Finally, Josey is pushed too far and decides to fight back, but she finds herself hard-pressed to ...
