Metro Triples three-disc Goth Anthology: Underground Anthems from Rock's Dark Side gets credit for having the gall to include not one, but two cuts that have appeared in John Hughes movies: Sigue Sigue Sputnik's "Love Missile F1-11" (from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and the Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink" (from Pretty in Pink). While the compilers may utilize a far more elastic definition of goth than your average music fan, that's not to say that there aren't some classics here. Goth Anthology boasts all eight minutes of the Mission UK's majestic "Tower of Strength," the campy excess of the Damned's cover of Barry Ryan's 1968 hit "Eloise," and Fields of the Nephilim's "Power." This is a long mix with a lot of glaring holes (where are Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Cure?), but it's got enough character to make up for its empty pockets. ~ James Christopher Monger
