Soulful house diva Kim English is one of the genre's most enduring vocalists. Scoring early successes with hits for many of dance music's most noted producers, Kim's breezy gospel-influenced style has been embraced by club kids and deep house aficionados alike. Her 2006 effort, MY DESTINY balances upbeat, DJ-friendly tribal house numbers with more downtempo material, all showcasing Kim's commanding vocal chops. Uplifting yet sensual, MY DESTINY is spirited house music in the tradition of fellow Chicago legends Ten City and Larry Heard.

My Destiny
$13.05 This expansive compilation focuses on a series of disco songs released on theT.K. Records label, most of which date from the mid- to late '70s. Despite the seemingly limiting "disco" tag, The Best of T.K. Disco presents a nicely diverse cross section of material from this genre: Indeed, the music covers everything from the lush, almost symphonic Euro-disco of Beautiful Bend's "That's the Feeling" to the earthy, bass-driven funk stylings of Uncle Louie's "Full Tilt Boogie." Along the way, it unearths ...

| | Best Of Arrested Development CD (2004)
My Destiny
$6.29 Featuring these top selling hits, 'Tennessee', 'People Everyday', & 'Mr. Wendal'. Collectables. 2004.
Collectables' 2004 release Priceless Collection: The Best of Arrested Development is a repackaged reissue of EMI/Capitol Special Markets' 1998 release The Best of Arrested Development, which was part of their '90s budget-line Ten Best series. At the time of that disc's release, I wrote: All of the group's seven charting R&B hits -- "Tennessee," "People Everyday," "Revolution," "Mr. Wendal," "Natural," "Ease My Mind," and "United Front" -- along with three album tracks, like "Fishin' 4 Religion" and "Give a Man a Fish" are here. Although the disc is not sequenced in chronological order, the very fact that all these hits are on one disc at such an affordable price makes The Best of Arrested Development a terrific choice for budget-minded casual fans. That sentiment applies to this retitled, repackaged reissue, since it does indeed have what most listeners are looking for, but if you already have the previous budget-line comp, the full-priced 2001 collection Greatest Hits, or the 2002 mid-line comp Classic Masters, you don't need this, since both of those compilations cover the same territory. [Curious sidenote -- the cover on this Collectables disc features the same picture as on EMI's Classic Masters, only framed and cropped differently.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The Best of Arrested Development is part of EMI-Capitol Special Markets' excellent ...

| | Auto Automatic Another Round Won't Get Us Down CD (2006)
My Destiny
$11.15 Ok here's the deal - Tampa, Florida’s Auto!Automatic!! does not play your typical instrumental indie-rock. Forget about the standard pretention associated with the indie-rock music scene. Instead, it's all about rocking out, but not taking yourself too seriously. It's instrumental, but not self-absorbed. It's math-rock, but it's also tailgating, I-275 South, three good friends and foosball games until 3 A.M. It’s genuine, and it’s unique. Frankly, there isn’t a proper way to label A!A!!'s music. In a state that has produced the collective conscious of Marilyn Manson, O-Town and the Devil Rays, Auto!Automatic!! is poised to change perceptions. The band holds no regard for what is acceptable in today’s music scene, all without trying too hard to be different.Auto!Automatic!! is comprised of three friends who honestly enjoy playing music together as much as they enjoy a summer party in the parking lot of the Skate Park of Tampa. Alex Fedele commands the drum kit, while Nate Murray completes the rhythm section with bass lines that drive and anchor each song in place. Brian Larsen crafts innovative, finger-tapped guitar lines that exist metaphysically, weaving in and around the solid rhythm. Together, the band naturally combines left-field time changes and did-you-just-see-that-man? I-mean-really-did-you-just SEE-THAT? musicianship with straightforward head bobbin‘ rock and melodic hooks that capture everyone’s attention. The impetus of the band began in the summer of 2003 when the Chicago native Brian Larsen moved to the sunshine state and began writing songs. The talented and prolific Larsen hunkered down with guitars, pedals, powerbooks, Tarantino dvds and cases of Leinenkugel in his apartment in Tampa, and developed what has perhaps become the most unique and engaging sound to emerge from the area. At most shows, the band is often found drinking PBR cans with friends, and anyone else who likes to talk about soccer or Ricky Gervais. Due to their ability to command attention at each performance, the band is continually gaining regional support in the already competitive and over-saturated South East music scene. It may sound odd, especially ...
