| | Mc 13 Illadelph Eternal CD Mc 13 Discography of CDs
Personnel: Khari Green (guitar). If the use of the band slang "Illadelph" -- as in the album Illadelph Halflife -- wasn't enough to suggest the influence of the Roots on this Philadelphia rapper who has spent the last decade on the fringes of their 5th Dynasty crew, one listen to MC 13's debut album makes it clear that ?uestlove and the boys are only slightly lower than the Almighty in his estimation. Recorded mostly with live instruments and featuring the same heavy fug of jazz, soul, funk, psych and dub that the Roots specialize in at their head-nodding best, the eight proper songs on this brief but satisfying record showcase an MC with an occasionally awkward but more than adequate flow and a mostly positive and thoughtful lyrical outlook. Highlights include the catchy single "Get Up" and "Closed Session," which opens the album with a loose, jammy feel that the remaining songs maintain nicely. Perhaps not a top-tier album, thanks mostly to the casual just-friends atmosphere that's a big part of its charm, Illadelph Eternal shows that this minor figure deserves closer attention than he's heretofore received. ~ Stewart Mason Mc 13 Illadelph Eternal Songs | 1. | Intro/Closed Session |

| | Les Crane Desiderata CD (1971)
Illadelph Eternal
$11.59 DESIDERATA features TV talk show host Les Crane reciting well-known poems backed by various session musicians. Personnel includes: Les Crane (spoken vocals). Personnel: Evangeline Carmichael (vocals); Jim Horn (flute); Dennis Budimir (guitar); Chuck Domanico, Joe Porcaro, John Guerin, Louie Shelton, Michel Rubini, Emil Richards. Audio Mixer: Henry Lewy. Audio Remasterer: Bob Fisher . Liner Note Author: Richie Unterberger. Arranger: Fred Werner. Although a respected television and radio host throughout the late '50s and '60s, Les Crane will perhaps best be noted for this long player which garnered the voice-over talent a Grammy for "best spoken word recording" in 1971. "Desiderata," however was not penned by Crane and its' origins have been the subject of much erroneously perpetuated mythology. While space prohibits an unexpurgated account, the author of the text is Indiana native Max Ehrmann (1972-1945) who, in addition to being a poet, was also a barrister. In his surviving diary, Ehrmann prefaced his version with the words "I should like, if I could, to leave a humble gift -- a bit of chaste prose that had caught up some noble moods." It was not until 1959 when the Reverend Fredrick Kates -- rector of St. Paul's Church in Baltimore, Maryland -- included "Desiderata" in a compilation of sacred devotionals gathered for his parishioners. It was here that the text was erroneously dated as being penned circa 1692 -- which was in actuality when his church was founded, rather than the date of the text. Crane's dulcet toned reading became an anthem for those wishing to perpetuate the message of peace and love that had seemingly been abandoned in the wake of the '60s. Joining the proceedings throughout this long player are an unusual gathering of noted studio musicians under the collective moniker of the "Crane Gang." These include Jim Horn (flute), Joe Porcaro (percussion), Louie Shelton (guitar), ...
