Not to be confused with their debut album, which shares the same title, CEMA Special Markets' The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is a budget-priced overview of the group's late-'60s and early-'70s recordings for Liberty and United Artists. Quite a few of their charting pop hits are here -- "Buy for Me the Rain," "House at Pooh Corner, " "Some of Shelly's Blues, " "Battle of New Orleans" and "Mr. Bojangles" -- along with some fine album tracks, which makes it a nice bargain for budget-minded casual fans. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Music Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Songs Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Music Review Purchase Nitty Gritty Dirt Band CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Cheech & Chong Cheech & Chong CD (1972)
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album
$8.69 Truly a trail-blazing comedy record. Cheech & Chong were a Southern California comedy duo like no other, combining social commentary and true doper humor. Cleverly rooted in Mexican and California post-hippie ideology, these guys brought the humor of the drug culture to the American public safely. Produced by legendary West Cost music industry figurehead Lou Adler, ...
| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy CD (1970) Remastered
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band CD music
$7.99 The first album issued by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band after they had temporarily disbanded in 1969, this greatly expanded their pop audience, due primarily to the Top 10 hit cover of Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles" (which actually wasn't a hit until early 1971). The group moved into a more accessible rock-oriented fusion of country, bluegrass, pop, and rock & roll, relying primarily on smartly chosen covers of tunes by the likes of Walker, Mike Nesmith, Randy Newman, and Kenny Loggins. Few bands had incorporated instruments more commonly associated with country and bluegrass, particularly mandolin and banjo, as comfortably into a rock setting prior to this release, and their well-crafted harmonies help put the songs over for those not-steeped-in backwoods sounds. It was an extremely diverse program for a country-rock album, too, moving from rustic instrumentals and snippets of tapes of elderly musicians performing rural Americana to the Buddy Holly cover "Rave On." The group were actually at their best, though, when doing softer, melodic pop tunes. "Mr. Bojangles" was a deserved huge success in that regard, but Nesmith's ...

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band songs
$20.49 A name that is synonymous with 1970s rock, Emerson, Lake & Palmer have some of their career highlights gathered here. The band typified the prog-rock noodling of the early '70s, with keyboard player Keith Emerson frequently peppering their offerings with lengthy solos that demonstrated his seemingly limitless abilities. Their live shows were as loftily ambitious as their music, with each tour offering bigger stage sets, longer songs, and a blissful experience for ears that were finely-tuned to a popular trend that soon became wildly unfashionable with the dawning of punk rock. This eclectic collection brings together various oddities such as TV appearances, promotional videos, a documentary about the band, and a 44 minute jam from a 1974 California festival.

| | Supertramp Live, 1997 CD (2006) (Import) England
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album
$13.15 After Supertramp split in 1987, fans waited nearly ten years before most members of the best-known lineup reunited for an album (1997's Some Things Never Change) and tour. But while one of the group's two leaders was included in the proceedings (Rick Davies), the other one was not (Roger Hodgson). Regardless, the "new look" Supertramp soldiered on with a stage show that expectedly focused primarily on the classics -- as reflected on the 2006 release Live, 1997. Despite the long layoff between studio albums (and Hodgson's absence), Supertramp sound as bombastic and flawless as ever, as such longtime classic rock radio standards as "Goodbye Stranger" and "The Logical Song" sound very similar to the original studio versions. ~ Greg Prato

| | Traveling Wilburys Collection CDs (1988) With DVD
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band CD music
$19.99 The meat of the order here is definitely the first disc, TRAVELING WILBURYS, VOL. 1, a certified masterpiece with five legends at the top of their game. Roy Orbison's "You're Not Alone Anymore" may be his finest performance since the '60s; George Harrison's "Handle With Care" is as good as any solo Beatle hit; and Tom Petty's "Last Night" shows why he belongs rubbing shoulders with Orbison, a Beatle, and Dylan. Disc 2 features their follow-up record, TRAVELING WILBURYS, VOL. 3, and while it still holds up, the material is not quite as strong as on VOL. 1 (sadly, Roy Orbison, for one thing, had passed away by this point). There are still some gems, though, mostly from Petty: the country stomp "Poor House," the longing "New Blue Moon," and the playful "Inside Out." Disc 3 is a DVD featuring complete music videos and a short behind-the-scenes documentary about the supergroup. This is a must-have for fans of the band and of the legendary musicians that comprise it.
Famously, the Traveling Wilburys came about nearly by accident: in 1987, George Harrison mentioned to his dinner companions Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison that his record company wanted a b-side for the new single from his then-current album, CLOUD NINE. The group's near-spontaneous collaboration, "Handle With Care," turned out so well that rather than waste it on a b-side, they turned the legendary late-1960s hoax, ...
