Disciples of Groove are one of the most unique unsigned bands in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area, innovators of the style they affectionately call Progressive Funk-Rock. They always provide an energetic live show with excellent musicianship and strong melodic hooks that inspire music lovers of all ages. Friends since childhood, they self produced their EP in 2005 and are currently working on a second CD. Disciples of Groove has performed at some of the area's biggest venues, including Six Flags Great Adventure, the TLA, The World Cafe Live (main stage), the Trocadero (main stage) and the Commerce Bank Amphitheater. Disciples of Groove were showcase acts at the Dewey Beach Music Conference, the Millenium Music Conference, the first annual Dewey Beach JamFest, and the Y100 South Street Music Series, as well as being a featured artist on 88.5 WXPN. Our goal right now is to get hooked up with the college circuit and the festival scene! Check out our Promo EPK video live at the Trocadero in Philly. The ending is a MUST SEE!Here's what people in the industry have to say:"Philadelphia has long been home to a musical stew that combines ingredients ranging from jazz to phunk to hiphop to reggae to jambands - Disciples of Groove are the latest to add their own pinch of spice to that simmering pot. Picking up the ball from G.Love, Fathead, Townhall, and others, DoG are working on becoming the latest and greatest Philly export."Jim McGuinnY100rocks.com"Here's a band I saw at the Brotherly Shove Fest--excellent musicians--it was an awesome set. They're called Disciples of Groove, and a groove it is, man... Diggin' this noise? I am."Paul Jaxon93.3 WMMR - Philadelphia, PA "It's exciting and electric, funky and eccentric. The directions of these Disciples will pull listeners into an aural tug-of-war with funk and rock. While this combination is no second-coming of the wheel, these musicians have laced their flavor with fatty punches and natural orchestration. Top-notch musicianship all around- and with the gift to not overplay. Vocally they're working with the crisp 70's innocence of 1-inch tape and no effects."Anthony CarotoOrigivation Magazine"Basically, they (Disciples of Groove) make sure to cover all facets to appease your musical preference so it's almost impossible to find something you don't like in each and every one of their songs...So don't fret if you're brainwashed by commercial radio...be in any musical mood you wish, Disciples of Groove will hit that taste bud and get your booty shakin'."Iris KarasickAudioXPosure.com"I know the Disciples of Groove will have a solid future because they have a great respect for their past."Legendary Producer/Engineer, Jim Tullio"Digging the new tunes! Disciples Of Groove album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break ...

Disciples Of Groove album
$7.45 Nicholas Markos writes and sings his own rock music, his "green-eyed soul." Not a slave to trends, genres, or formats, he simply looks into the heart of music to find what speaks to him. While his songs are compared to the thoughtful and emotive work of Paul Weller, Pete Townshend, Van Morrison, and David Gray ("He's like David Gray without the accent... or with the accent, depending on how you look at it, I guess..." - Swifty Lazar), the songs incorporate a range of elements that reveal both Markos's depth as a musician (in addition to guitar and bass, he was formally trained on viola and saxophone) and his egalitarian tastes. "I'm not concerned with classifying my songs," he explains. "I'm just focusing on making music that speaks to me."On the recordings and in live shows, Markos collaborates with a variety of musicians, including Todd Sucherman, drummer of Styx, who plays drums on most of the songs on "Whatever." Other collaborators include Howie Kantoff (Blue Man Group, Poster Children), Eddie Carlson (Frisbie, Poi Dog Pondering), Mark Schwarz (David Singer & the Sweet Science), and Jordan bandmate Marcos Sueiro.Live performance credits include opening sets for Bob Dylan, Curve, Melissa Etheridge, Todd Rundgren, Roger McGuinn, The The, the Violent ...
| | Greatdayforup Ready Rock CD (2002)
Disciples Of Groove CD music
$9.59 In our small and delightful town of Albany, the capital of New York, the revolution that is greatdayforup was formed. The band, lead by Mike Vitali's (Ajna Chakra, Hansome - featuring members of Helmet-Sick of it All-Murphy's Law) rocking avant-garde guitar style and the sometimes angry yet soothing spoken word vocals of Michael Langone (Former Greys front man and drummer for NYC's the Spitters), hit the scene in 1999. With help from Tom Burre the father of Boneoil, Terry McCoy on drums, and Kevin Heckler on bass, the band was on the way. By 2000, greatdayforup went though a shift in the line up. Tom Burre stepped down to keep the oil burning in Boneoil and Kevin Heckler moved on to pursue other dreams. After going through several bass players, GDFU scooped up bass player David Lahaie (spidergod, liquid grace, thirst & howl) whose heavy groove style fit the band like a big phat glove. GDFU then went into the studio to record their self-titled EP. While keeping busy playing in the capital area, as well as Boston and New York City and developing a sound which reflected the change in the line-up, GDFU went on to record their first full length CD Ready Rock. By the end of the summer GDFU parted ways with their drummer Terry McCoy and recruited the young and talented Jared Krak in November of-2002. GREATDAYFORUP is constantly growing by smashing the media's ear cramming sound and brain washing photogenic poison and still aims to please the ear with heavy rocking grooves, great vocals, and a live performance that's guaranteed to set it off every time.Group MembersMICHAEL LANGONE*LEAD VOCALS*PERCUSSION, MIKE VITALI*GUITAR*VOCALS, DAVID LAHAIE*BASS*VOCALS, JARED KRAK*DRUMS*VOCALS Press Reviewstaken from the scenester online. January 2003 http://inertskate.com/scenester/greatdayreview.shtml----------------Great Day For Up...what can I say? It's extremely refreshing to hear such diverse musicality from a band. At first, they sound like a grunge band straight out of they early 90s Seattle scene. That's not a bad thing. Delve further into the disc to track 3. You'll find some serious shit. Absurd and puzzling lyrics, concrete transitions, a driving guitar and distinct bass line...sweet...me likey. Track 4 is damn fresh...that's right, I said fresh, cause that's what the fuck it is. The disc is filled with what the fuck just happened and are you allowed to do that type transitions. And guess what? GDFU pushing musical boundaries almost into enemy territory is what just happened and you ARE allowed to do that, it's just that a lot of bands are trying way too much to be a certain style that they can't write anything but that particular style. I could do without the back-up vocals...or is it that the vocalist recorded multiple vocal tracks? Whatever it is, it's out of tune a lot of the time, which definitely takes away. I'd suggest sticking to some reverb on ...
