It's Christmas
$18.39 Although it was a few years into their career before they came upon the defining idea of releasing one single a month for an entire year (brilliantly summed up on the two-part Hit Parade), the Wedding Present were, from the very beginning, a singles band first and foremost. Shortly after the often-excellent but spotty George Best, the band gathered all of their pre-LP singles and EPs onto one handy 12-track disc. Tommy (1985-1987) is not only the definitive look at the early Wedding Present, it's one of the great albums of the mid-'80s U.K. indie scene. The speedy rush of the rhythm section, David Gedge's artless vocals and everyday-life lyrics, and most importantly, Pete Solowka's inimitable ...

"Blind" Boone - The ManNotes by Frank Townsell Born in Miami, Missouri, on May 17, 1864, one year after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, John W. Boone ("Blind" Boone) became, during his lifetime, one of the most loved and respected musicians in America. His mother, Rachel Boone, had fled to freedom during the Civil War and worked, during the war, as a cook in an army camp in west-central Missouri. Rachel claimed to be among the numerous descendants of Daniel Boone and adopted the family name. John's father was a bugler about whom little is known. Early years:Shortly after giving birth to her son, John, Rachel moved to Warrensburg, Missouri where she worked as a domestic for several prominent families. At the age of six months, John's eyes were removed to save his life due to "brain fever". According ...

It's Christmas
$12.55 Cabaret…That tight-rope edge where high-brow meets low-brow; Art song’s darker cousin – a place some won’t admit exists. A place where edges are blurred and conversation takes on a tone and language that isn’t necessarily polite; where intimacy lurks in the darker corners of after-thought and the boundaries seem endless and the possibilities are limited only by the imagination.THE ARTISTS...Susan Eichhorn-Young, voiceEmbodies both the performer and the teacher. As a pianist, her vast repertoire includes solo piano works from baroque through romantic and contemporary composers as well as orchestral reductions for piano and voice. As a vocalist, her repertoire covers numerous eras in five languages and several dialects. She has performed internationally on stage in multiple genres. Her sensitivity to language, technical facility, and emotional commitment create performances which are as compelling as they are unique. Roles she has created move from The Sorceress in Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” to Musetta in Puccini’s “La Boheme” to Jenny in Weill’s “Threepenny Opera”. Her concert and recital repertoire weave through Scarlatti’s “Aries con tromba” and Vivald’s “Gloria”, Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers K. 339”, Faure’s “Requiem Opus 48”, Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915”, Cantaloube’s “Songs of the Auvergne” and Harbison’s “Mirabai Songs”. She carries a deep attachment to the song literature of the cabaret world and contemporary art ...
