Nathan Sheldon is an independent composer/performer in the Fresno, California area. He began tinkering with musical instruments very young around the age of 6. Influenced by his mother's singing talent and grandmother's piano playing, Nathan quickly learned to reproduce melodies on the piano that he heard elsewhere. In the early 90's he began experimenting with consumer electronic keyboards and building on his own personal style. By the mid 90's Nathan had learned much about sound synthesis and had begun experimenting not only with melodies but basic sound manipulation with the consumer electronic keyboards at his disposal. By the late 90's, while in college, he was able to gain access to a professional musical synthesizer, the Roland XP-80, and quickly began tweaking parameters to create environmental sounds from basic sampled sounds on the keyboard. The Nathan Sheldon album is the first compilation of songs Nathan composed during this time. The group of songs, originally released in 1998 as a free download on the Internet, reflects his initial melodic experiments and sound designs using only the Roland XP-80 music workstation. | | Residents Ten Little Piggies CD (2009)
Nathan Sheldon
$10.50 The Residents have been on quite a creative streak in the first decade of the new millennium, with a bunch of new albums, a pretty extensive reissue campaign, and retrospectives like the Kettles of Fish compilation. And judging from the "futurist compilation" Ten Little Piggies, they aren't slowing down at all. The "Ten Little Piggies" referred to are actually ten different projects that may or may not be completed and/or released (actually, as of the release date in late 2009, a couple of the projects have been released as downloads only and The Ughs! received a physical release as well). It's quite a mix. Several of these projects revisit earlier ones, like the Tweedles and Voice of Midnight instrumentals, which are interesting because those albums were originally so driven by narrative that the music was almost secondary. Apparently, they're also working on a Duck Stab Re-Imagined album, represented here by an almost drum'n'bass-style "Semolina" and a surprisingly dark take on "Laughing Song," reduced almost entirely to percussion. There are ...
| | 2562 Unbalance CD (2009)
Nathan Sheldon
$12.78 Dave Huisman's first 2562 album, Aerial, contained a handful of certifiably massive dubstep tracks, but the album was sometimes skeletal to a fault -- not quite featureless, yet dangerously close to it, more akin to a second-tier release from a dub techno label like Echocord. That becomes all the more clear through Unbalance. Everything sounds livelier, more ...

| | Windham Hill Christmas II CD (2003)
Nathan Sheldon
$6.09 Following in the footsteps of the previous collection, A Windham Hill Christmas, Vol. 2 gathers more relaxing, sophisticated holiday music as performed by Windham Hill's roster of artists. The collection finds the right balance between traditional and contemporary, both in terms of its sound and its choice of songs. Will Ackerman and David Cullen's "I Wonder as I Wander" sounds gently modern, while Paul McCandless' "In Dulci Jubilo" has a slightly more traditional bent. Tracy Silverman and Thea Suits' strings ...

| | Telomere Zoetosis CD (2001)
Nathan Sheldon
$16.45 Concerning Telomere's work, the most important distinction to make, especially for electronic music aficionados, is that all of the artist's work is done on the Serge modular synthesizer. Christopher John Macdonald is the gifted composer behind Telomere, and with this 2001 release, Zoetosis, truly we see him visiting old and familiar ground. This seems to be somewhat of a sequel to 1998's Astral Currents, which was Telomere's first recorded and released foray into the ambient/space/atmospheric domain, and what he created with that recording hasn't quite been done since. Telomere possesses the gifted ability to create subtly evolving ambiences, while at the same time giving them a lush and organic feel that's really only been heard in the electronic music of Steve Roach. Like Telomere's previous recording, Zoetosis has minute traces of Tangerine Dream, 1970s era Pink Floyd, and Steve Roach coursing through it. Also, like the previous album, Zoetosis is considered a pick, as the artist's recordings go hand and hand, and one should not be without the other. Telomere has crafted a wonderful work and one that any fan of contemplative music should not be without. ~ Matt Borghi
From Chuck van Zyl, host of Star's End:Chris MacDonald is better known to STAR'S END listeners as Telomere by way of his 1998 debut album ASTRAL CURRENTS. On this recording, Telomere established himself as one of spacemusic's foremost deep-drift stylists. His fresh insight into the relationship ...
| | Musser Foreman Of The Fields CD (2005)
Nathan Sheldon
$9.59 Primarily a filmmaker, Musser tends to create stories within stories with his music. And, the stories are varied. This album was created over a period of about six months. Although most of the tracks were digitally created, no loops were used. No quantizing was incorporated so you hear human rhythms (and the obligatory errors which go with that inference). Some guitar work was used but only sparingly. There was a small emotional battle between ...
| | Plenty Turn, Thing CD (2006)
Nathan Sheldon
$11.39 "Armed with real bass skills, acoustic trills, ghetto blasters, noise-makers, bullhorn, distorted microphones and gadgets of all type, his art dances and it is the essence and hopefully the future of private expression embracing community. THAT MEANS DANCING SWEATY AND THINKING AT THE SAME TIME." -TIG Plenty FACE fires off rude beats, jumpy bass lines, and street-wise poetics within mad-lib compositions. The trancing, bubbly pulse of ska and experimental roots of dub greatly influenced Earls' song-crafting as he evolved with the genres into new fusions of dance music, branching out into break-beat, electro-clash, grime, and mash-up. Props for PlentyFace:"...a vocalist and arranger who seems as assured of his playful strengths as David Byrne in his prime. You can actually hear fun happening all over this disc,..." "...rough-house bitch slap on chugging indie pop, great guitar work woven over ...
