Chicago indie scuzz-pop awash with dirty guitar hooks, tasty beats, and punchy trumpets. Using the metaphor of a satellite to observe their losses from a distance, TENKI looks back on divorce, death, and failed love experiments, only to finally come to terms with a sort of abstract redemption. When you're done with a listen, you feel like you've run a mile - you're emotionally and sonically exhausted.TENKI and their "pristine scuzz-pop...is hardly just another Albini-biting rock band from Chicago. For View Of An Orbiting Man, the bristling sextet has enlisted a veritable cornucopia of sonic ingredients, featuring trumpet, clarinet, cornet and keyboards in addition to the traditional guitars, bass and drums View Of An Orbiting Man Music Tenki View Of An Orbiting Man Songs | 1. | Lovesick |

View Of An Orbiting Man album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, ...
| | Paul McCartney Good Evening New York City CDs (2009) With DVD; Digipak
View Of An Orbiting Man CD music
$15.64 Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. with a whopping ...

| | Phil Rockrohr and the Lifters Premium Plastic CD (2001)
View Of An Orbiting Man CD music
$11.39 Phil Rockrohr & The Lifters formed in Chicago after they assembled in May 1999 to record a demo of Rockrohr's songs. Jeff Givens (drums), Tony Wisniewski (bass) and Mike Babincak (lead guitar) enjoyed the sessions so much they suggested Rockrohr book some gigs. The project yielded the five-song demo, "Popcycle," which became a celebrated local recording on WXRT-FM (93.1). In January 2000, DJ Richard Milne, host of Local Anesthetic, placed the CD in his Top 5 local recordings of 1999.The band drew the attention of Jay Bennett, lead guitarist and keyboardist for Wilco, when Rockrohr forwarded him a copy of "Popcycle." Bennett promptly placed the disc in his Top 5 on Spin On-Line during 1999.Bennett offered to record a full-length album with the band, and recording commenced in early 2000 at Engine Music, the studio that grew out of Brad Wood's Idful. During Bennett's breaks from Wilco projects, Rockrohr and The Lifters finished 14 songs."Phil Rockrohr & The Lifters," the band's debut full-length album, was released on Jan. 1, 2001. During recording, the band added keyboardist Chris Brown and replaced Babincak with guitarist Owen. Phil Rockrohr (vocals, rhythm guitar): grew up in the Chicago area and played in a half-dozen Chicago bands during the 1990s, including Absolute Zero, The Love Brokers and The Beat Writers; released a 10-song demo in 1993 produced by Wilco's Jay Bennett, a longtime friend who also played in Rockrohr's backing band The Higher Guns in 1994-95.Tony Wisniewski (bass): grew up and lives on the Northwest Side of Chicago; played in a dozen bands since signing a record contract with the group Pendragon (Casablanca Records) before the band broke up during the 1980s; played with Babincak and Rockrohr in Pop Ulysses in 1997-98; also currently plays in the band Throck Morton.Jeff Givens (drums, backing vocals): another native Chicagoan; played in a number of Chicago bands during the 1990s, including The Beat Writers, 40 Smokes and The Lap Dogs; is a talented and prolific singer and songwriter in addition to playing the drums; recorded a full-length album of his songs with The Lap Dogs; also currently plays in the band ...

| | Dress Whites My God The Shame! CD (2008)
View Of An Orbiting Man album
$11.55 The Dress Whites began about 3 years ago, with the demise of two of Montreal's most beloved garage-pop bands, The Cains and The Telephones. Musically homeless, various members of these once great pillars of rock decided that rather than starve in solitude, they would unite in harmony. The Dress Whites fuse the roots of country, folk, punk, rock and soul to create a brand of pop fueled by strange poetics and captivating melodies. Their focus on songwriting above all else allows them to glide effortlessly between styles without having to sacrifice anything in the way of quality. This is pop music the way God intended it: smart, to-the-point and gleefully unapologetic.Take a listen... ---------------------------------PRESSThe Montreal Gazette: 4/5[My God, The Shame] roars out of the speakers with the authority and grace of superior rock 'n' roll. As dense delights like Spongecake and Blood Work begin to creep under your skin after a few playings, you get a sense of what Squeeze might have sounded like with loud guitars, or what Oasis could have done with better melodies and a sense of economy. Whether it's the relatively epic Waking Hours or the four-on-the-floor backbeat of Two Times the Hurt, there's one thing you can count on from this promising quintet - which has, incidentally, relocated to Toronto: hooks that just keep on comin'. Don't miss this one.NOW Magazine - Toronto: 4/5It'd be a damn shame if people thought the band recently decided to move from Montreal to Toronto because of a lack of appreciation. Whatever the cause, we can consider ourselves lucky to have this five-piece garage/folk/soul/pop outfit in our midst. Satisfyingly eclectic and intently catchy from start to finish, My God covers plenty of ground without ever sounding unsure of itself. Give Up the Ghost comes off like feisty shout-along pop, and Spongecake nostalgically invokes the garage-rock melodies ...
