" Out Of Body is one of the most refreshing small-group jazz recordings in recent memory. Substantial and evocative." - Planet Jazz" Out Of Body should reaffirm Abbasi's increasing stature within the modern jazz community, 4 Stars." - Downbeat Magazine" Abbasi writes stunning compositions and plays dazzling solos. Remarkable." - Jazziz"Out Of Body is wildly imaginative. A must for any serious collection." - Toronto StarHeralded as one of the foremost modern jazz guitarist by many publications including, Down Beat, Jazztimes, Signal To Noise and The Toronto Star, Rez Abbasi's music is considered genre bending. The All Music Guide has referred to Abbasi as "One of the most virtuosic guitarist in New York.", giving "Out Of Body" 4 1/2 stars.Rez's music crosses boundaries in every direction. Originally born on the Indian sub-continent but brought up in the states, Rez has had the privilege to embrace many musical land scapes. It is natural that his music is fortified with straight rhythms and grooves as well as swing pulses. After graduating from the Manhattan School of Music with a scholarship, Rez began touring. His performances have been many including the New Orleans Jazz Festival, French Radio, Tri C Jazz Festival, West Canadian Jazz Festivals, The Blue Note (NY), Kniting Factory , Joe's Pub etc..He has performed with among others, Ruth Brown, Billy Hart, Marvin"Smitty"Smith, Rick Margitza, Ken Werner, Michael Formanek, Gary Thomas and Lonnie Plaxico.
Out of Body is guitarist Rez Abbasi's third outing as a leader, and his most focused and mature work to date. Joined by tenor/soprano saxophonist Tony Malaby, trumpeter Ron Horton, bassist John Hebert, and drummer Bruce Hall, Abbasi again relies on eclectic, advanced compositional devices and a sparkling solid-body guitar tone to convey his message. He opts for some biting overdrive on the opening "To Your Perfection" and the dark, hypnotically grooving "Ganges." (The latter, about halfway through, falls to a hush for a remarkable Horton soliloquy.) Abbasi also plays acoustic guitar beautifully on the two ballads, "Phosphor Colors" and "Smile at Darkness," creating moments of sparse, elevated dialogue with the rhythm section. And he launches an inspired round robin of solos with the horns on the swinging "Gold Rush." "Half the Battle," one of the more ambitious tracks, plays out like a suite in three parts, even though it's under eight minutes long. Other highlights include the three-plus-four groove of the title track, the freebop frenzy of "Winner's Circle," and the slow, quirky shuffle of the closing "Dark Bones," an effective feature for Hebert. An intricate, unpredictable, and cleanly recorded statement by one of New York's most virtuosic (and underrated) guitarists. ~ David R. Adler
Personnel: Rez Abbasi (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, tabla, percussion); Tony Malaby (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Ron Horton (trumpet, flugelhorn); John Herbert (double bass); Bruce Hall (drums, percussion).

| | Brian Mitchell Jazz Coop: Spiral Stairway CD (2002)
Out Of Body songs
$16.49 The Jazz Coop-Spiral StairwayThe Jazz Coop is a quintet in the classic mainstream hard-bop tradition with a forward look and it's own unique sound. Drummer Paul Kreibich, tenor saxophonist Brian Mitchell, and trumpeter Jeff Kaye founded the group in 2000. The three first met and played together during their tenure with the great Ray Charles. Rounding out the "Coop" are the celebrated Swiss bassist Isla Eckinger and the outstanding pianist Ed Czach. Their new CD Spiral Stairway also features the masterful trumpet and flugelhorn of Steve Huffsteter on several tracks. All the members of the group have extensive credentials and discographies that include work with some of the greatest names in jazz. Collectively, they have worked and/or recorded with pianist Gene Harris, trumpeter Red Rodney, drummer Shelly Manne, singer Carmen McRae. tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon. singer Mose Allison, pianist Hank Jones, and many more. "We've all done so much sideman work with a lot of great people," says Kreibich. "We want to make our own statement based on our experience." The group is big on maintaining a blues feeling in much of their music, due in part to their background with such artists as Ray Charles and Gene Harris. The CD Spiral Stairway features original tunes by Kreibich, Mitchell, and Eckinger as well as arrangements of Red Mitchell's beautiful ballad "Finally" and Lee Morgan's bluesy waltz, "Free Wheelin'." Other highlights are Tim Oumette's "Old Hollywood Hoofers", and Monk's "Evidence." Engineer Wayne Cook did the recording in a direct "live in the studio" style. This captured the groove and natural good feeling of the "Coop's" music. If you like modern jazz that swings and is fun to listen to, you'll love the Jazz Coop."The band is a hard-driving, ...

Out Of Body songs
$16.45 There has always been a rich tradition of female soulful singers extending back to Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith, and the rest of the Smith girls, to Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and beyond, who have in some way or another, been influenced by gospel music. Whether they sung in church or were rose in its environment. Lady CiCi is no exception. This exposure has enriched her phrasing and inflection. It is the heart of her performance. The gospel influence allows her to put so much of herself into a song. This is inherent style, not learned in school, and comes from living life.Lady CiCi, born in Newark, N.J., has had early exposure to gospel music as well as to popular songs. Her formal education led her to a teaching profession in the public school system; her jazz education led her to singing as a professional ...

| | Claud Rivers Music For All Occasions CD (2007)
Out Of Body CD music
$12.15 Hot!, Hot!, Hot! This is the way I would describe the new “Music For All Occasions” CD by Claud Rivers. The CD should be a part of every radio station’s collection. It is also one that any serious and creditable disc jockey (D. J.) or air-personality should want to have as a personal resource. Here’s why...The CD contains tracks for almost every occasion: wedding anniversaries, promotions, line dancing (electric slide, Chinese checkers, stepping etc.), birthdays and three special tracks. The first special track is the New Year’s Eve arrangement of “Auld Lang Syne” (track #8). It is special because it is an updated, danceable rendition of the old standard. This will allow for everyone, even those without dates to bring in the New Year along with the couples. Couples may kiss during the short singing section while others start the line dance on the dance floor. The nice dance groove with the silky smooth soprano sax solo could easily make this the new standard at New Year’s Eve celebrations. The second special track is the smooth jazz track “Who Did It” (track #9). It’s great to just sit back and listen to, play while cruising in your car or dance the old school swing to. The third and last special track is “A Prayer of Thanks/Thank You Father (track #10). It is a re-mix of a song from Praise Master C’s gospel CD entitled “I Love To Praise The Lord” and is a special prayer with music for any gathering (reunions, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc). This CD has something for everyone and I hear a ...
