| | Steven Springer Satisfyingly CD Steven Springer Discography of CDs
Combining elements of calypso, reggae and jazz, guitarist Steven Springer is high on energy, loaded with variable time signatures and obviously a labor of love. Born and raised on the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean. Steven learned to play the guitar at a young age. "As a boy growing up in Trinidad there was always music around me from the Calypso to Bossa Nova to Pop. There were also many steel bands, who were always playing in the yards in every neighborhood."Added to this mixture was the pulsating African rhythms, the reggae beat, the Indian percussion sounds and popular rock, folk and jazz music from the US and England.Springer has been traveling the world playing his guitar, since his late teenage years. His band in Phoenix, Arizona was voted band of the year for three years, and won Album of the Year, in the 1980s. Touring in the USA and Caribbean, Springer performed at the 1988 World's Fair in Brisbane, Australia, with the Trinidad Calpyso Band. Upon returning to the US, after touring Australia, South Pacific and Europe for a year, Springer joined the world famous TRINIDAD TRIPOLI STEELBAND. In the 1990s he won "Best Guitar Player" for four years in a row at the Detroit Annual Best of Music Awards. He has also performed on and produced twentyone albums/cds in his career, including jingles for radio and television.Springer's skillfully played guitar with elements of jazz, rock, samba, as well as calypso and reggae can be heard throughout his sets. A very pleasant sound that's easy on the ears and cheers the heart. Satisfyingly music CDs
$16.45 Michael Paulo One of the most versatile and cosmopolitan saxophonists in pop, soul and contemporary jazz for over 25 years, Michael Paulo has added his distinct saxpertise to a virtual who's who of artists, including Al Jarreau (Paulo's longest term touring association), James Ingram, No. 1 Smooth Jazz Trumpeter and guitarist Rick Braun and Peter White, Oleta Adams, Kenny Loggins, Patti Austin, Jeffrey Osborne, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Carl Anderson, Bobby Caldwell, Johnny Mathis and more. Paulo grew up in a musical family (his father a pianist, his mother a singer, his siblings all playing instruments) and though he came upon the sax relatively late at age 15, he quickly became first horn player in his high school band and was playing professional gigs around the islands within a few years. Rather than accept a scholarship to North Texas State, he chose a more adventurous road by joining Hawaiian pop/rock band Kalapana, which had some success on the mainland but was most popular in Japan. After playing regularly and recording on all four of Kalapana's albums from 1975 through 1979, Paulo recorded a solo album for Japanese release on Trio records. In addition to exposing him to the Japanese jazz audience, Tats in the Rainbow gave him the opportunity to work with legendary pianist Herbie Hancock. Paulo moved to Los Angeles in 1981 and quickly established himself by playing ...

Among vibraphonists during these years there have been five who have been of utmost importance: Cal Tjader, Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Terry Gibbs, and Dave Pike. Listing these five does not deny the contributions made by such men as Victor Feldman, Red Norvo and Gary Burton, to name just three.
