For seven years, Keith Schreiner’s electronic music and experimental auditory sculptures have been the backbone of Portland’s ever-burgeoning electronic/dj scene. His wildly successful days in Dahlia (five years of packed Tuesday nights at the Ohm) were only the starting point into a career that has included numerous production, dj, and collaboration opportunities. During downtime from Dahlia, Schreiner helmed the six-piece future jazz project The Down Band featuring Nate Query (The Decemberists) on bass, DJ’s IZM and Venom 33, and local jazz maestro Derek Simms on trumpet. During that time Schreiner also worked under his solo guise as Auditory Sculpture. Auditory Sculpture began as a creative playground for Schreiner where he could test, pull, and meld beats and sounds. Some of which would later show up in Dahlia and other artists’ work. The music that Schreiner kept for himself became the three albums of Auditory Sculptures discography '" Solitary From (1999), That Might Be You But This is Me (2001), and Merge (2002). This December, after a four-year break, Schreiner will release his fourth Auditory Sculpture album, Sessions at East. Sessions at East began as exactly that '" dj sessions at East. Over the past year and a half, Portland’s East Chinatown Lounge, hosted Schreiner’s Auditory Sculpture project on a weekly basis. The relationship was perfect. The uber-swank lounge sans stage setting at East allowed Schreiner the vibe he needed to compose ideas, explore new sounds, and create a chill ambience for the drinking crowd. Schreiner found inspiration for these dj sets through the work he has done with various artists over the past four years. For Schreiner those past four years found the demise of Dahlia, the invention a new sociopolitical hip-hop group Suckapunch and increased production work for various local artists including the latest Storm and the Balls remix record, Hush recording artist Corrina Repp’s latest, and Portland favorite Nicole Campbell’s last album. He also lends his talent to a track on Katiln Ni Donovan’s upcoming album. Schreiner also busied himself with film scores and commercial music. It was from this work that Schreiner began to compile the elements of what would become Sessions at East. | | Frazier Riddell Who Will Save This World CD (2006)
Sessions At East album
$13.15 WHO WILL SAVE THIS WORLD?Preface:This CD speaks not to answers, but to questions. I have sought the answers for over 20 years and even now they elude me. I have not given in to defeat, but I have learned to give defeat the respect it does deserve. After all, it's a tool of the Creator, in the context of ultimate light. Bad things don't happen to good people. There are no bad or good people. There are people. These people have a choice to do good or to do bad. "You can drink beer and love Jesus" is just a song given to me from my life experience. Some will condemn this song while others will embrace it as a liscense to sin. This song embraces both in hopes they may eventually follow the light. Timing is everything in music & in life. I hope the humorous songs on this CD find you at the right time. I hope the same for the more serious songs. Written message aside, I have attempted also to make good music. I hope you enjoy listening to this & I hope a bulb of joy might spring into your life, even if only for a moment, so that this music will have served it's higher purpose. These songs are to be viewed as a small light shining on the human condition.Frazier Riddell - 9-29-04 Canton, MSRiddell's 03/04 release (Who Will Save This World) has received regional air play as well as formidable responses from live audiences. The songs "You Can Drink Beer & Also Love Jesus" & "The Grass is Always Greener" have been the keystones of the 11 song CD. Please listen and enjoy as resistance is futile.+++++++++++++++++Frazier Riddell was born in Canton Mississippi, in the 1960's, the son of a strong willed cotton farmer & loving Christian mother. He shared a love for music that was shared along with his family. "My first music learned was on my grandfathers piano" says Riddell. "My brother Charles and sister Diane taught me Chopsticks, Heart and Soul, and another tune. All three songs were duets and we played them over and over till improvisation sprung up to avoid boredom! Looking back I realize I first learned about improvisation at age 5." Frazier took another step in his music when he took up saxophone in the 6th grade. He played alto and tenor sax throughout High School. During these years Frazier's other brother Robert casually taught him some chords on the guitar. "I learned to play 'dueling banjos' and the few chords my brother taught me, really well. I never really took the time to learn much more until I was 20 years old" says Riddell. "I wasn't playing sax (yet) at college, but still loved music, and began to dive into guitar more and more." Another big happening must be mentioned according to Riddell. "I had a born again experience in 1981. I ain't trying to brag and I ain't trying to preach (although I do sometimes in my songs) but this changed the course of my life! After my experience with the Father, Son & Holy Ghost, I realized I wanted to use my life pursuing something I loved. I asked my parents if I could change my major to Music. I was prepared for a no, but I got a YES!" It was at this time that Riddell ...
