| | Rob Albertson Rare Air CD Rob Albertson Discography of CDs
Rare Air is an eclectic collection of songs fusing elements of contemporary jazz, R&B, ambient electronica, classical and Americana. The album is the brainchild of keyboardist/composer Rob Albertson and guitarist/composer Lee Spivey. Each song is a truly unique sonic sculpture featuring several layers of guitars including acoustic, Gibson Achtop electric, Fender Stratocaster and Telecastor, all processed with effects and even the Ebo. The songs also feature rich sound textures of synthesis, sampling, electronica, drums and exotic percussion. Many of the pieces feature world-class instrumentalists Richard Mills-piano, Anne Page-violin, Kelly Via-Alto & C Flutes, and Tim Aucoin-Acoustic Bass. The project also utilizes the latest state of the art recording equipment. The composers used the studio as an additional instrument to create compositions which otherwise could not have been realized with traditional acoustic-only methods. We hope you enjoy Rare Air as much as we did creating it! Teo was a very talented pianist, businessman and one of the truly 'good guys' in the music business. Here's a link to his recent obituary from the Boston Herald. http://theedge.bostonherald.com/musicNews/view.bg?articleid=139608He will be sorely missed. He leaves behind many friends but especially his beautiful wife and two wonderful daughters, ages 14 and 8.I will be donating 100% of ALL future sales monies of RLWK's 'Jazzalicious Grooves' to his family from now on.It'll be much needed & appreciated by them. Thank you.HERE IS MORE INFO ON OUR GOOD FRIEND TEO:Adapted from an article by Ted Drozdowski in the Boston Phoenix:Teo Leyasmeyer has been a highly regarded figure in the nation's blues community and is credited with making the Cambridge House of Blues one of the premier touring stops for top blues artists. Other clubs in the chain, while featuring blues, have tended to favor rock and other pop-music formats. For 10 years, Leyasmeyer was responsible for bringing the House of Blues a number of historic performers, including Otis Rush, Dr. John, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Ike Turner, and Solomon Burke, who would typically not play asmall (225-capacity) club. He also introduced the raw Mississippi-blues sound of the Fat Possum label to the Boston market, booking the first area performances of both Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside. After all,Leyasmeyer was a touring pianist with such well-known bluesmen as Buddy Guy and Freddie King before he entered the talent-buying business. In 1997, the Blues Foundation, a nonprofit organization made up primarily of professionals from all aspects of the genre, acknowledged Leyasmeyer's accomplishments with one of its Keeping the Blues Alive awards: Promoter ofthe Year. In 2000, the Blues Foundation drafted Leyasmeyer for its advisory board, where he sits alongside such blues-world dignitaries as the record producer Jerry Wexler and the performer Bonnie Raitt.Web Material: Promoter & musician ...
| | ZERO RAIN Atmosphere CD (2002)
Rare Air CD music
$15.19 Zero Rain has been a vital presence on the Columbus, Ohio modern-rock scene for several years and they have established themselves as original band that just won't quit! Their melodic hook-laden songs and introspective, often poetic, lyrics seek to explore the emotions that are constant and universal between all people. This, along with the energetic live shows and absolute resistance to succumb to trends, has solidified Zero Rain as a band that definitely had something to say.More importantly, a growing devoted following only serves to reinforce that many others indeed share that same feeling! Emerging from several early versions of the band, singer-songwriter, James Housteau, and drummer, Chris Winder, formed a collaborative core whose musical vision far exceeded "local" expectations.Seeking out other like-minded musicians led James and Chris to recruit guitarist, Dave Gallagher, and bassist, Steve Gross, in 1999.Together, their efforts produced a fresh ...

$12.69 RED RED RED RED RED RED REDRED RED RED RED RED RED REDRED RED RED RED RED RED REDI'm doing an Andy Warhol here. I've been gettin some ideas. Yeah and it feels pretty good too. I feel like I need to give, you, the prospective buyer some real info on this record if you're gonna be laying down some hard cold cash...so here goes...(I love those three dots)...First about the actual playing of the music. I did almost everything.Lead vocals, backing vocals, guitars, bass and percussion. It was a major job. The stuff I did not play was because my co-producer, George Grant, was smart enough to know when I needed a different hand. The guitar solos on 'Salvation,' 'Lori,' 'Torture,' and 'Disaster,' were all played by Frank Morin who also did the slide guitar parts on 'Renegade,' and 'The Road.' There's keyboard parts on 'Red,' and 'Unemployment Line,' which were played by my good friend Neal Nelson. The other thing is a blues harp on'New Orleans' which was knocked off by Frank Vigilante. Finally George Grant did the killer bass part on 'With You.' Sweet. Here's some insight into where some of these tunes came from...'Lori' was a girl I met on night in a long gone bar called Tin Pan Alley on 49th street. I never even kissed her but she sure did make an impression on me. Never saw her again either. 'Work Today' is a reworking of another song I had called 'Rockaway.'"Rockaway' was from the mid 80's somewhere. 'Work Today' uses the exact same chord progression just different timing.'Unemployment Line' came from me being fired from my waiting tablesjob at the Figaro Cafe. Jerks. But the Figaro Cafe was hip way back when. During different periods Andy Warhol, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and many other important artists hung there.'With You' and 'Lonely Explanations' come from two separate(and I might say) delicious affairs. The girl I wrote 'With You' about has never heard that one but the girl from 'Lonely Explanations' not only knows the song but used to sing it with me in my late 80's band. Ouch.'New Orleans' just popped out one day when I was playing guitar at my home studio. I was shocked. I mean I really like this tune and I just don't know what brought it on.'Red,' the title track was real inspiration from a band I saw at CBGB when they performed a version of The Beatles' 'Day Tripper.' I mean they totally deconstructed it. I don't think I even recognized it at first and then once I did the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. The next afternoon the lyric was in my book. 'Take me back, I don't care...'The rest I'll leave for you to make up your own story. Just one suggestion, if you are visiting this page and listening ...

| | Road Work Ahead On The Road Again CD (2004)
Rare Air album
$17.75 The roots of Road Work Ahead stretch all the way back to the simpler days of 1980. Bob Magnusson was living and gigging in Los Angeles and had a record deal with Albert Marx's Discovery Records label. Bob had already done one album as a leader and was leaning into his second project. He rounded up pianist Bill Mays, San Diego drummer Jim Plank, and myself and we rehearsed through some of his tunes. The next stop was a Hollywood recording studio where we laid down the tracks and Bob titled the album "Road Work Ahead" featuring the Bob Magnusson Quartet. The music chosen for the recording were four of Bob's originals plus a Bill Mays tune and an early Russell Ferrante composition. The direction of the group had some inherent electricity and because of not only the musical ESP that took place but also the human interactive ESP, we decided to continue on, form a band, and call ourselves Road Work Ahead. The idea was free advertising courtesy of Caltrans and the hopes of taking the band out on the road.We were four friends, all fully engaged in music, all composing tunes for the group, and all dealing with extensive freeway drive time. Bob and Bill lived in L.A. and Jim and I lived in San Diego. We'd do a hit in Hollywood, Jim and I would sleep under Bill's piano in his house in Studio City, and then after the following evenings gig we'd drive back in the middle of the night, struggling the whole way to stay awake. There are parts of that equation that I'm happy to leave behind. But the music itself was priceless. We went on to record as a group on two of my Xanadu album projects (The Path and Bird Raga), two more Road Work Ahead records (Night and Day and Two Generations of Music), a KCET TV show called Road Work Ahead Performs Four by Four with Shelly Manne as the host, and many concerts throughout the United States. Leonard Feather wrote about us in the L.A. Times "Another splendid set... this music, halfway between be-bop and the Avante Garde, bears extended listening..."In the late 1980's Bill Mays moved to New York City and this marked a big change for the band. Bill had been immersed in the L.A. recording studio scene and really wanted to break away from that world of tense details and morph into the reality of a jazz pianist playing music in real time. New York is the center for this direction and Bill eased right in. The huge distance between Bill's East Coast home and our San Diego contingent pretty much halted our Road Work Ahead exploits for awhile. We resurfaced as a group in 1997 and did an inspired show at the Bella Via in Cardiff and garnered a great review in the San Diego Union. Six more years passed by and in January of 2003 Bill was circling through San Diego (his folks live here) and had a couple of days free. I called up the rest of the gang, booked a Sunday afternoon hit at Dizzy's (they had just scored a good acoustic piano), and broke out the book of tunes that we used to play to plan what musical vistas we might visit this time around. The concert was a wonderful success and Bill, Jim, Bob, and I vowed to make an effort to do more Road Working ahead. The telepathy and pathos that was generated served as our inspiration and guide. Our next event was a July, 2003 show at the La Jolla Athenaeum complete with a standing room only audience in attendance. We had a great show, got another glowing review, ...
