Yes, there's a fair amount of calculation likely in her pop-classical crossover. That doesn't mean the lady can't sing like an angel. Before the embryo-with-pipes known as Charlotte Church came along, Brightman was THE pop-classical singer, whose supernatural pipes allowed her to appeal to both camps with equal verve. The only U.S. chart hit not featured on the Best Of Loose Ends compilation from EMI U.K. is "You Can't Stop the Rain." Most of the other significant moments in Loose Ends' history are provided here, making it the one disc to snap up, since all of the group's albums were uneven affairs. The biggest singles -- "Hangin' on a String (Contemplating)," "Stay a Little While, Child," "Slow Down," "Watching You," "Don't Be a Fool" -- are included, but a couple key album tracks are missing in action.
