The Live from Austin, Texas series gets a taste of New Orleans and some good old fashioned Texas roadhouse blues with this latest release. Includes all of Fats' classic songs from "Bluebery Hill" to "I'm Walking" and "Ain't That a Shame." By combining New Orleans boogie-woogie with blues, R&B, and a strong backbeat, singer/pianist Fats Domino altered the very course of popular music. The rock-&-roll pioneer is captured live in this 1987 appearance on PBS's AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, which has been expanded from its televised half-hour episode to include all 90 minutes of Fats's performance, including groundbreaking classics like "I'm Walkin'," "Ain't That a Shame," and "Blueberry Hill."

Catching and sprightly performance by Fats Domino Most of the big hits are there, like I'm Walkin', Ain't That A Shame, Blue Monday, I'm Ready, Blueberry Hill, Walking to New Orleans, and I'm in Love Again. Fats is in a talkative mood, joking with the audience and clearly enjoying himself. Fun, zest and vitality characterize his performance in Austin. And, of course, Fats' great band is there, backing him up perfectly. My personal favorite is a thundering rendition of Shake, Rattle and Roll, with a great baritone sax solo by Reggie Houston that sets the house on fire. Long live the Fat Man! Fats Domino - Live From Austin, Texas film
$31.25 This documentary of the Rolling Stones' 1969 US tour has become a legendary, harrowing symbol of the tragic demise of the "Peace and Love" era. After a successful tour across the United States, the Rolling Stones gave a free December concert at Altamont Speedway in California with the Grateful Dead (not seen performing), Ike and Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, and the Flying Burrito Brothers (all seen performing one song each). The poorly planned show was fraught with problems from its inception. The band unwisely selected the Hells Angels motorcycle club to provide security, and after the pre-existing chaos was fueled by very visible alcohol and drug abuse, the bikers resorted to violence to keep the stoned, restless, and often naked crowd in line. The result: dozens of injuries and the on-screen stabbing of a young African-American man (during "Sympathy for the Devil," no less) by one of the concert's "staff security."
In a manipulative but effective move, the Maysles brothers and Charlotte Zwerin filmed Mick Jagger in the editing room witnessing ...

Fats Domino - Live From Austin, Texas DVD
$17.85 With a concept that could have failed on so many levels in lesser hands, Ry Cooder stuns once again in MY NAME IS BUDDY and demonstrates why he is one of America's most adventurous musicians. His chosen material is a loose collection of animal character sketches--the titular Buddy is a cat--based on labor struggles and the lower class in Depression-era America. Think of it as Woody Guthrie meets Beatrix Potter.
While an odd construct on page for a man that jammed with Beefheart, the Stones, and the Buena Vista Social Club, MY NAME IS BUDDY flies with every track. The stellar cast of musicians includes the brothers Seeger, Van Dyke Parks, Jim Keltner, Paddy Moloney of the Chieftains, and Flaco Jimenez, and grounds the fairy tale atmosphere with musical blood and guts. The ensembles tear through early-19th-century forms (country blues, bluegrass, and old-time ...

With a raucous working-class sound, Thin Lizzy added soul and intelligence to the metal scene, and their defiant attitude paved the way for the punk revolution. Along with live performances, the film contains interviews with singer/bassist Phil Lynott, guitarist Eric Bell, the band's manager and producers, ...
