On MADE IN BROOKLYN, hip-hop heads get a chance to see just how far Masta Killa has come as an MC. Since his first appearance on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin," Killa was noted for his stylistic similarities to the GZA. From the late '90s on, his flow has evolved into one of the most understated deliveries in hip-hop--a chillingly straightforward minimalist monotone. MADE IN BROOKLYN is a solid effort, thanks largely to participation from a slew of super-producers (including MF Doom, PF Cuttin', and Pete Rock) as well as appearances from the usual Shaolin mic-specialists. On the whole, it's a good omen for the Wu--who've been through their share of ups and downs--that even their most underrated MC can put together a thorough album as they gear up for another comeback. Made In Brooklyn
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product ...

| | Ghostface Killah Fishscale CD (2006)
Made In Brooklyn
$10.45 FISHSCALE, the fifth solo album by Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, is a brilliantly cryptic album drenched in complex ghetto slang that reinforces the MC's status as a master wordsmith. Ghostface doesn't disappoint with lines like, "Ay-yo I should just bark on you/burn your car on you/'cause I'm too much man to leave a mark on you." His voice is mellifluous even when he's shouting, and the infectious beats (provided by Pete Rock and MF Doom) and rare soul and funk samples (a staple of any Ghostface venture at this point) provide the perfect backdrop for the unveiling of Ghost's enigmatic persona. FISHSCALE, packed with gritty tales of the inner-city coke trade, occasionally meanders into tired Tony Montana-posturing, yet occasionally hitting par for the course can be forgiven ...

$16.49 Miami's Winter Music Conference is revered as an "institution" by those in the know and has been acknowledged by the media worldwide as a crucially important event on the music calendar. The general (and well deserved) perception of the gathering is that of a dance institution that tirelessly breaks new DJ's, producers, parties, new sounds and has its finger firmly on the pulse of tomorrow's hits. The millions who have passed through security turnstyles on both sides of Miami International Airport because they believed (and still believe) in its relevance can't be wrong. Neither was the Azuli ...
