Kenny Loggins' second cousin hit the big time for a couple of months in 1975 with "Please Come to Boston," a serviceable and sentimental soft rock gem from his second album, Apprentice (In a Musical Workshop). Part of the lexicon of harmless '70s singer/songwriters like Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor, Dave Loggins never again regained the momentum spawned by that track, but its appearance on nearly every AM pop compilation illuminates the tune's timelessness. While the rest of Apprentice doesn't deviate from the warm, dull tones of the single -- even the full-on "My Father's Fiddle" and "Girl from Knoxville" sound like the Band-lite -- it's an expertly crafted slice of commercially made diner pie that resonates squarely in the moment and vanishes two steps out of the door. ~ James Christopher Monger

Apprentice (In A Musical Workshop) Music Dave Loggins Apprentice (In A Musical Workshop) Songs Apprentice (In A Musical Workshop) Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) It's about time! I've been waiting for this for about 25 years...since I wore the grooves out on the LP. This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Dave is a wonderful singer, songwriter, a great vocalist and excellent guitarist too. Two of my favorites are "Someday" and "Girl from Knoxville.
But every cut on the album is great. Submitted by liberty123 (Manassas, VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
At last, I found it! I bought this album on vinyl when it first came out in the 70's. I loved it so much and wore it out! I've looked for it on CD for many years and now I've finally found it! Thank you so much, I can't wait to receive it and start playing it over and over again! Submitted by Jeannette (Brighton, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of the best LP's of all time I am so glad this was finally released on CD....after settling for the greatist hits album, which is good in it's own right,I finally get to hear the complete "Apprentice" album again.I still have my vinyl version but put away the turntable many years ago in favor of the new technology.I have great memories as a young man listening to these songs over and over again in the basement of my parents house. Every song on here is great.I like "Fathers Fiddle" as well. Dave writes greats songs and performs with acoustic excellence. He deserves so much more credit that his brother for being a great songwriter. If you like a mellow country/folk sound then get this album. It's a keeper for sure. Oh, my God...it's finally out! There are about a half dozen albums that have never been reissued on compact disc and that should have been LONG ago. Now, at least one of the infractions has been corrected. If there ever was a "perfect" album released, this is it. Dave Loggins has become one of Nashville's most revered songsmiths, and this, his second solo album and the first of four he did for Epic in the '70's, features his landmark songs, "Please Come To Boston" and "Sunset Woman", both of which have been covered innumerable times by lesser voices. Finally, his "My Father's Fiddle" is once again available. I don't know why it took so long, but I am just thrilled that this oversight has been corrected. Thank you, Wounded Bird!
