The Story:The majority of recent chart topping hip-hop has found itself coming from unexpected areas of the country. Artists like Nelly (8x Platinum+) & Eminem(6x Platinum+) have emerged from cities and regions that were not considered commercially viable. In a clock-like manner, the hands of time and success are making their way back to the Midwest with all hands(and ears) pointing to Minneapolis. At the head of the pack are The Children Of Righteous Elevation. Or, The C.O.R.E. as they are known to their growing legion of loyal fans. Along with the hands of time, the next generation of musical pioneers from Minneapolis has arrived. And they are ready. With an EP under their belt and the live performance circuit comfortably locked down, they have been afforded ample time to record a catalog of music, professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered at Flyte Tyme Studios by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis' engineer, Xavier Smith and 3rd Eye Entertainment's producer/owner Reggie Henderson.The C.O.R.E. began their musical journey during the summer of 1998. Brought together by friendship and values outside of music, their bond was solidified by a shared dream to bring their music to the world. With captivating styles and substantial lyrical content, they quickly generated a strong buzz in the local hip-hop community. With the pressure of a local buzz, The C.O.R.E. surprised everyone with an uncanny work ethic and unrivaled dedication to their craft. Never ones to waste an opportunity, they sought professional management, introduced highly entertaining stage shows, performed at the best venues in Minneapolis, and began to build a rather large following. The Loose Salute's debut album Tuned to Love is a low-key gem that combines country-rock, indie pop, the sunny pop of California in the '60s and '70s and Laurel Canyon songcraft in a fashion not too terribly different from Mojave 3's recent output. No surprise there since the band is helmed by Mojave 3's drummer Ian McCutcheon. He proves himself a fine songwriter and vocalist throughout, taking about one-third of the vocals and sounding especially good on the whispery ballads like "The Mutineer" and "Ballad of the Dumb Angel." The fourth installment in the stellar JAZZMATAZZ series finds Baldhead Slick in top form, carrying on the tradition of that old jazz-influenced boom-bap that he pioneered in the 1990s as half of Gang Starr. While it does feature appearances from a few jazz legends like Bob James and David Sanborn, JAZZMATAZZ IV is lighter on big-name players than previous installments (which featured participation from the likes of Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, and Isaac Hayes).
