The veteran Arizona band's first album since their 1997 split and 2001 reformation is a solid effort, combining hook-heavy, pop-oriented tracks like "Come on Hard" and "Heart Shaped Locket" with ballads like "Someday Soon" and a nod back to their original REM/Byrds sound with "Jet Black Sunrise." "Long Time Gone" shows the band is still able to rock when required, while "The End of the World" displays a winning combination of sensitivity and pop smarts.

Gin Blossoms Major Lodge Victory Songs Major Lodge Victory Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Back with a vengeance! Ive been a Gin Blossmes fan since the early 90's. This latest record is not as good as "New Miserable Experience" was. That being said, not many records were. However, this latest release is very good! A combo of Alterna/Pop/Folk and a dash of country. Submitted by kryptonian_man (Philadelphia, PA) Was This Review Helpful? another triumph from my favorite band this cd has been anticipated for a long while. i've been listening to the cd for two weeks and it's getting even more enjoyable as the lyrics are becoming familiar. hope they stay together and continue their hard earned success with subsequent good fortune and abundance. No es mi culpa no tenerlo original, lo tuve que bajar de Internet porque aquí no lo venden o no ha llegado todavía y como son las cosas aquí, seguro llega como a las 5 meses o más. Gin Blossoms is the best! Old school! Arriba el rock alternativo y Gin. Hi from Venezuela. Submitted by juanchovaldez (Caracas, Venezuela) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing. In behalf of all the fans out there who's been praying for them to reunite, welcome back guys! And i can say that this new album is great! Not too brooding and dark as the previous albums but there's still a touch of the old GB and some welcome changes. Supergirl is fantastic. Looking forward to some vids! GB rocks! a welcome return for an underrated band Arizona's Gin Blossoms were always one of the most underrated and miscategorized bands of the 1990s. The buzzsaw pop of radio ready gems like "Hey Jealousy" and Byrdsy jangle of the similarly brilliant "Found Out About You" established the band as pop rock classicists of the highest order. Fortunately, "Major Lodge Victory" the band's welcome return, bows to the same melodic tradition. More so than creating nostalgia for 1992 FM radio, most of these songs harken back to an even more glorious era--mid 60s AM radio. Most of this album is pure pop bliss that will dispel the notion that Jesse Valezuela and Robin Wilson can't write em like Doug Hopkins could. While Hopkins edgy lyrics were often briliant, these songs are breezier and lighter, though no less significant. Wilson's croon is as smooth as ever, and "Major Lodge Victory" would fit in nicely with your Turtles and Box Tops CDs. Summery, top down, wind in your hair, sing along retro leaning pop from talented craftsmen. Submitted by ridge_r (Chattanooga,TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$11.95 "Blues Theme" is arguably the most famous track by Davie Allan & the Arrows. It was recorded quickly on Mike Curb's Tower label for the soundtrack to the move Wild Angels -- Peter Fonda's first biker flick and just before Easy Rider. With wild, screaming fuzz guitar and a surf beat, it signifies the sound of the L.A. Strip in 1967 and embodies -- in its two-minutes-and-ten-seconds -- all the cultural elements of its soundtrack -- the waning surf scene that traveled it, the muscle cars that roared through its lanes, the dawn of acid-crazed hippies floating down it, and the speed-drenched outlaw biker tribes who haunted it. The rest of the album is a literal pastiche ...
