Purchase Gigantour CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Frank Marino Eye Of The Storm CD (2001)
Gigantour album
$14.65 Canadian edition of the Mahogany Rush frontman's long awaited 2000 album. Haunting vocals, melodic guitar solos & sign of the times lyrics combined with solid drum beats & Arabic guitar tones make Eye Of The Storm a winner. Frank's true musical influences shine brightly on almost every cut. The Doors, Santana & even Pink Floyd are prevalent. Tracks include, 'He's Calling', 'Avalon' & 'Since You Came Into My Life'.
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush includes: Frank Marino (guitar); Mick Layne (guitar); Peter Dowse (bass); Dave Goode (drums).
There were two predominant views of Frank Marino in the '70s. The first was that he fit into the guitar hero group of such people as Pat Travers, Ted Nugent, and Robin Trower. The second was that he was a bit of a Jimi Hendrix clone. Well, 2001 sees Marino releasing Into the Storm with his longtime group Mahogany Rush. It also shows that the guitar hero title still fits, although perhaps the guitar heroes of today differ from those of the '70s. Marino's sound certainly fits into his era more than the 2000s, but that does not stop him from producing a killer album. His guitar textures ...
| | Dream Theater Live Scenes From New York CD (2001) (Import) Enhanced CD; Argentina
Gigantour CD music
$12.65 Disc 3 is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Progressive metal heroes Dream Theater forge ahead, unmatched in popularity and success in their chosen niche. The Long Islanders marked the final show of their 2000 tour by pulling out every trick from their collective hats, which included elaborate staging (a la Queensryche's MINDCRIME) and pushed the limits even further with a frock-clad gospel choir. As multiple cameras and sound recording gear were engaged, the historic August night was captured for fans on the three CD's that make up LIVE SCENES FROM NEW YORK.
The band tears through a nearly flawless version of their epic "Metropolis Part 2" concept piece that stands impressively on its own merit. Treating their adoring fans, the quintet presses on with a collection of older material, highlighted by the back-and-forth medley of "Caught in A New Millennium." Practically topping themselves with each set, DT triumphantly encore with a stunning performance of their suite, "A Change of Seasons." From a performance perspective, James LaBrie had improved by leaps and bounds as a live vocalist, and keyboard ...
| | Dream Theater When Dream & Day Unite CD (1989) Germany; Originally Released in 1989
Gigantour music CDs
$13.95 WHEN DREAM & DAY UNITE, the major label debut from prog-metal act Dream Theater, includes the tracks "YTSE Jam" and "Only A Matter Of Time."
Dream Theater's first official release gave an indication that this was a talented band that combined the styles of Yes, Rush, and Queensr˙che. The latter seemed to be too big of an influence at this stage of their career. Vocalist Charlie Dominici's voice is not powerful enough to carry out the band's otherwise convincing intensity, and his attempt to sound like Queensr˙che's Geoff Tate was unsuccessful. The music here is not as heavy as it would become in the '90s but could still be classified as progressive metal. Guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy established themselves as competent musicians, but their individual styles were not yet refined. The band's originality does shine through on "Light Fuse and Get Away," "The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun," and "Only a Matter of Time." The odd-meter measures and numerous time changes gave the group a complexity that hadn't been experienced for an entire decade in the rock genre. "YTSE Jam" was essentially their answer to Rush's "YYZ" and became a staple in the band's live set. The session was marred mostly ...

| | Meshuggah Obzen CD (2008)
Gigantour CD music
$12.25 Easily one of the most scarily gifted bands in metal, Sweden's precise, devastating Meshuggah has returned with another set of explorations into carefully controlled mayhem. OBZEN continues their seemingly robotic mastery of complex, polyrhythmic thrash so expertly delivered it's unthinkable that it came from mere humans. The album's monochromatic austerity casts Meshuggah's metallic adventures in grim, grey light, as unfeeling ...
| | Montreux '77 (Oscar Peterson Jam) CD (1977)
Gigantour music CDs
$9.65 One of many Pablo albums taken from the 1977 Montreux Jazz Festival, this outing teams together pianist Oscar Peterson, bassist Niels Pedersen and drummer Bobby Durham with tenorman Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and trumpeters Clark Terry and Dizzy Gillespie. The talented (and very competitive) players really dig into the opening uptempo blues ("Ali and Frazier") and they continue cooking on "If I Were a Bell," ...
