Scott Henderson is a benchmark in the jazz fusion guitar world. He can just as easily lay down a mean blues lick or rock you hard, burning the frets like a wild man. Standing shoulder to shoulder, you have the creative genius and frenetic bounce of Gary Willis on bass with Scott Kinsey's inventive keyboard magic. Confidently, Kirk Covington pulls a polyrhythmic mixer out and drums away any doubts you may have about the power and grace of Tribal Tech. This band is never afraid to stretch, to totter along the edge, to wander into bizarre fugues, and then come rushing back at you, head on, 90 mph, with tight, intricate, jazz fusion solidity. And now with Thick, they have gone a step further and decided to abandon the charts, the maps, and the guidelines. This is their chance to have a good time, to do what musicians enjoy most -- to spontaneously create in 100 percent freedom, seizing the moment to let the chemistry of who they are come through. Thick is essentially an in-studio jam session where four skilled guys let it all hang out. Tribal Tech will surprise you with their fiery creativity. ~ John W. Patterson

| | Dave Weckl Band: Live & Very Plugged In CDs (2003)
Thick CD music
$16.29 Dave Weckl usually performs a couple weeks a year at Catalina's in Hollywood. This two-CD set features his 2002 quartet, a versatile unit comprised of the leader/drummer, keyboardist Steve Weingart, electric bassist Tom Kennedy, and saxophonist Gary Meek. Their music is reminiscent of the Yellowjackets and (during its Jaco phase) Weather Report, with Weingart sometimes hinting at Chick Corea. The styles range from groovin' fusion to post-bop, with very good musicianship, creative solos, and generally interesting originals. Weckl is a powerful drummer yet is quite subtle during much of this set. One of the highlights of the two-fer is a spirited version of "The Chicken," ...

With STANDARDS, he gets back to basics, delivering a straight-ahead set of performances that resonate with a restraint and tastefulness only a player of Pasqua's vast experience could offer. | | Alphonse Mouzon Jazz In Bel-Air CD (2008)
Thick CD music
$13.79 Best known for his jazz fusion work in the 1970s, Alphonse Mouzon has a style that has always tended toward the smooth and sophisticated. This holds especially true of 2008's JAZZ IN BEL-AIR, a laidback date that finds Mouzon and his ensemble exploring smooth crossover jazz inspired by classic bop, post-bop, and pop elements. The drummer's work may not be as adventurous or funky as it was once, but on this accomplished set it goes down as smoothly as a fruity cocktail at the Bel-Air Country Club.
Legendary star Jazz drummer and composer Alphonse Mouzon's first ...
| | Ernie Watts Classic Moods CD (1998) (Import)
Thick music CDs
$16.59 All tracks have been digitally mastered using 24-bit technology.
Classic Moods refers to a number of things -- classic songs, the classic small hard-bop group, the classic sound of jazz ballads. It's clear that Ernie Watts was out to recapture the spirit of his hero John Coltrane's exquisite Ballads, and what's surprising is how close he comes to fulfilling his goal. Working with pianist Mulgrew Miller, bassist George Mraz and drummer Jimmy Cobb, Watts recaptures the classic sound of '50s small combos without ever sounding like a stodgy revivalist. That's because he's too concerned with feeling and fresh, vital improvisations to devote himself to painstaking re-creations of the past. Every musician in the group ...
| | Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues CD (1994)
Thick songs
$14.59 Corky Siegel decided to return to solo recording in the early '90s, prompted by a few reunion concerts with his old partner, Jim Schwall. Instead of taking the easy way out and predictably running through a few standards, Siegel came up with the Chamber Blues project. As the title suggests, Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues fuses blues with classical music. Specifically, it features a string quartet, Siegel on piano and harmonica, and a tabla player. It certainly sounds intriguing on paper, but it never quite gels, since it's always possible to visualize the scaffolding that supports the music. Still, Siegel proves himself to be ...

Thick album
$14.15 Nara was the first permanent capital of Japan. It's a mythical and traditional city full of history. Nara is the home of many sites of World Heritage. Nature is also abundant in Nara. In January 2005, Misato yamanaka (vocals, piano), Kaname Arai (guitar, synthesizer), Koji tanemura (guitar), Kazuya Hori (bass) (all residents of Nara) formed Kacica. Kacica, at first, experimented with guitar sampling and fusing Japanese concepts with the beautiful sounds of “Mogwai” and “Sigur Ros” . In March 2005, Hiroshi Atarashi (drums) joined Kacica, and since then there have been the five members. They combine “Brian Eno”'s kaleidoscopic new wave art, the progressiveness of “Pink Floyd” and “Radiohead” , and the psychedelic feel of “The Doors” and “The Velvet Underground” . Also, Misato's ingenious vocals weave strong emotion into it all.In live performances, Kacica expresses it's uplifting feelings, and puts on a killer show. Since August 2005, Kacica has been doing performances nationwide. They continue to gain popularity, and even supported the “Minus ...
