Dave Weckl usually performs a couple weeks a year at Catalina's in Hollywood. This two-CD set features his 2002 quartet, a versatile unit comprised of the leader/drummer, keyboardist Steve Weingart, electric bassist Tom Kennedy, and saxophonist Gary Meek. Their music is reminiscent of the Yellowjackets and (during its Jaco phase) Weather Report, with Weingart sometimes hinting at Chick Corea. Nara was the first permanent capital of Japan. It's a mythical and traditional city full of history. Nara is the home of many sites of World Heritage. Nature is also abundant in Nara. In January 2005, Misato yamanaka (vocals, piano), Kaname Arai (guitar, synthesizer), Koji tanemura (guitar), Kazuya Hori (bass) (all residents of Nara) formed Kacica. Kacica, at first, experimented with guitar sampling and fusing Japanese concepts with the beautiful sounds of “Mogwai” and “Sigur Ros” . In March 2005, Hiroshi Atarashi (drums) joined Kacica, and since then there have been the five members. They combine “Brian Eno”'s kaleidoscopic new wave art, the progressiveness of “Pink Floyd” and “Radiohead” , and the psychedelic feel of “The Doors” and “The Velvet Underground” .
