Sentimiento Tu Cheo album
$11.69 Latin pop boy band Aventura has achieved no small amount of success with their unique blend of traditional Dominican bachata and sleek, Top 40-oriented R&B. THE LAST, Aventura's fifth studio release, further explores the band's swoon-worthy style, and is one of their most accomplished and impressive efforts.
As usual, the quartet plays to their strengths, which include lilting tropical ballads, with the occasional foray into hip-hop-flavored slow jams, such as "Spanish Fly," featuring cameos from Ludacris and Wyclef Jean. Additional cameos from Akon, Wisin y Yandel, and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval heighten the star appeal of THE LAST, but it's Aventura's smooth, sultry ...
| | Harry Belafonte To Wish You A Merry Christmas CD (1962)
Sentimiento Tu Cheo CD music
$8.25 Digitally remastered by Dick Baxter (1990, BMG Recording Studios, New York, New York).
A reissue of LPM-1887 from 1958 with different liner art, but identical otherwise. The original was only issued in mono, so it is likely RCA decided that while they were issuing the stereo masters, they'd update the artwork to include Belafonte's photogenic presence. ~ Cary Ginell
Considering Belafonte's previous talent for breathing life into well-worn folk standards, this album is a disappointment. As a rule, Christmas albums during this period were little more than assembly line productions of the same old holiday tunes with few, if any, original songs and this one is no exception (how many versions of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" can you listen to?). The album sold poorly, even at a time when every Belafonte album hit the top 10. It was repackaged in 1962 with a more ...
| | Juan Luis Guerra Ni Es Lo Mismo Ni Es Igual CD (1998)
Sentimiento Tu Cheo music CDs
$12.09 MI ES LO MISMO NI ES IGUAL was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance.
MI ES LO MISMO NI ES IGUAL won the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Merengue Performance, the Award for Best Engineered Album and was nominated for Album Of The Year. "El Niagara En Bicicleta" won the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Tropical Song.
"El Niagara En Bicicleta" won the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Tropical/Salsa track of the year.
Dominican singer/songwriter Juan Luis Guerra belongs to that select group of artists who have changed the course of Latin American pop with an inspired combination of strong melodies and literate lyrics: Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, and Ruben Blades. Just like Blades expresses his socio-political beliefs through the percolating rhythm of salsa, Guerra does exactly the same with the two major dances of his native country: the bachata and the merengue.
Guerra's merengue, however, is different from the traditional kind you hear on the radio. He has slowed down the beat, added vocal harmonies inspired by Anglo music, and introduced stylistic elements from other genres as well. The opening "Mi PC," for instance, sounds like a merengue, but the lyrics combine a subtle dose of eroticism with computer technology. And the flavorful ballad ...
| | Victor Manuelle Pesar De Todo CD (1997)
Sentimiento Tu Cheo songs
$5.69 In his fourth Sony Latin release, Victor Manuelle continues with the Sergio George styling that granted him much greater commercial success than his earlier two solo efforts. It seems that George's pushy, bombastic writing challenges Manuelle's improvising ability to a greater extent, thus giving the production a live, unconfined feel. Omar Alfanno's "Dile a Ella" is a tune that bristles with uninhibited energy. "Dile a Ella," the self-penned "He Tratado," and "El Aguila" are exercises of contumacious swing in every way; among other delights, "Nuestra Historia" is a juicy, astute mix of the usual George sound and the son montuno genre. A must for late-'90s salsa fans, and one that continued to solidify Manuelle's position as a favorite in later salsa generations. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.
Recorded at Sir Sound, New York, New York.
Personnel: Sammy Vélez Díaz (baritone saxophone); Vicente Alvarez, Carlos Velez, Angel "Angie" Machado (trumpet); Antonio Vazquez (trombone); Sergio George (piano, background ...
| | Olga Tanon 100% Merengue CD (2006)
Sentimiento Tu Cheo album
$7.09 100% Merengue is a welcome addition to the Olga Tañón catalog, for it compiles highlights of her prime years, when she truly was the Queen of Merengue. That means most of the songs here date back to the mid-'90s, with a couple exceptions like "Como Olvidar" (2001) and "Asi Es la Vida" (2002) that are poppier and thus a bit lighter than the frenetic rhythms of her earlier work. About half a dozen songs compiled on 100% Merengue were featured on an earlier collection of Tañón merengues: A Puro Fuego. Both are excellent collections, and while the overlap is a little frustrating for discretionary consumers, the similarity isn't enough to dissuade recommendation of both. After all, it's ...
