After putting in years of hard graft with highly respected Buffalo, NY hardcore acts such as Despair and Buried Alive, vocalist Scott Vogel made the cross-country move to L.A. in 2002 in order to start a mascara-smeared glam rock band on the Sunset Strip. Just kidding. In fact, the preternaturally pissed singer sought out like-minded cohorts with whom to launch his next, aptly named hardcore venture, Terror, quickly invading the local club scene, heading out on van-driven national tours, and signing with Trustkill Records for the release of their 2004 debut album, One with the Underdogs. Two years, and countless roads traveled later, the quintet entered Massachusetts' Planet Z Studios to work on their sophomore effort Always the Hard Way, recording with renowned producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, etc.), who helped lend the album's hardcore roots that contemporary, metallic edge so popular in the mid-2000s. Powered by precision-tool riffing and machine-gun percussion, shout-out anthems like "Last of the Diehards," "You Can't Break Me," and the title track are as clichéd as they are irresistibly infectious; perfectly framing Vogel's formidable presence at the mic and making the disc's breakneck-paced 29 minutes fly by in what seems like a New York minute. As such, Always the Hard Way proves ideal audio punishment for grizzled hardcore purists and mid-2000s metalcore kids alike; just as long as fans don't expect any innovations from the genre, and don't mind the surprising hip-hop interlude "Dibbs and Murs Check In" that interrupts the album's intense pacing. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

$11.79 Although hardcore metal has been around since the '80s, it was largely an underground phenomenon -- all the way up to the dawn of the 21st century. That was when bands such has Hatebreed helped bring the style to a whole new and larger audience -- on the strength of such releases as 2003's Rise of Brutality and 2006's Supremacy, as well as frontman Jamey Jasta's gig as the host of Headbanger's Ball. In addition to the aforementioned occupations, Jasta also runs his own label, Stillborn Records, which resulted in a project, the Icepick, which united the singer with former Crown of Thorns and Skarhead vocalist Lord Ezec. Although the group's debut, Violent Epiphany, was issued the same year as Supremacy, the project was in the works for quite some time -- with the reason for the union a pretty simple one: Jasta simply wanted to hear Ezec get back to his hardcore roots. Violent Epiphany is exactly what you'd expect from a Jasta-Ezec union ...

Always The Hard Way CD music
$12.29 After struggling to sustain the mainstream stardom they achieved in the early 1990s, and recuperating from the loss of original member and bass player Karl Mueller to cancer, Soul Asylum returned in 2006 with the appropriately named THE SILVER LINING. Longtime fans hoping for a sound more in line with the group's scrappy early work may be disappointed: This is still post-GRAVE DANCER'S UNION Soul Asylum, complete with well-polished production and bittersweet, radio-ready ballads. But Dave Pirner's songwriting is still sharp and heavy with memorable melodies (as on the album's lead-off single "Stand Up and Be Strong"), and the band can still pack a rock punch, proving there is some gas left in the tank.

Always The Hard Way music CDs
$9.36 I really love the music from the 70's Miles Davis band's and Herbie Hancock, especially from the funkier side. The keyboards from that era also appeal to me a lot. I love the Rhodes and the Synths that came from then onwards. I thought Joe Zawinul was the king of Jazz music with Synths. This band all live in Sydney, Australia, and are full time musicians. We're lucky enough to be able to make a living and have a lot of great musicians to play with. I wanted to dedicate the songs on the album to these men and women who bring the music to the people of Sydney, and Australia, and sometimes the rest of the world. Alex Hewetson Bassist and Composer for Gobotron, was a founding member of the Acid Jazz band DIG - Directions In Groove which started in the early 90's, and is currently putting together a new album. Alex has recorded with Pop Act Savage Garden, Rock Act Jim Moginie from ...
